4chan's /jp/ during world 5. There was a simple thread saying something like 'hey, let's play this together', and I had nothing better to do, so I tried it.
My initial impressions were horrible. Everything was counterintuitive and without a guide you had no idea what you were doing. I spawned somewhere between a large village and a river, and with criminal acts off and claims invisible I could not leave the little plot of land I was on (and for the most part couldn't even interact with) due to the (invisible!) claim/claims locking me in. Then I got 'thorn in the foot' and slowly started dying, then I figured I might as well pick a fight with ants since I was going to die anyways, and I got killed by ants.
I'm not sure what the reason for it was, but somehow it didn't discourage me from making a second character and reading the newbie guide, this time without a horrible spawn location, and the game started becoming fun. I soon after created a new character to join the /jp/ village, and six weeks later all kinds of crazy shit had happened and I had spent an average of 11 hours a day in H&H. After aforementioned crazy shit I became a hermit, and I've been playing as a hermit on and off ever since.
