Basic psychology

And boredom isn't cured by making a new character because you know you'd just be repeating the same things over and over, without any reason to expect it would be different than before. If you're sick of eating steak and potatoes every day you don't simply cook another steak, you make a cheeseburger.

Along that line of thinking a world reset won't help either.

I think that it is about time that a new, bolder strategy is attempted.

Honestly, I can't entirely blame the people that 'refuse' to come back or stop playing because they expect/want a reset. Yes, there are tons of reasons and things that should be fixed in the game for it to have a nicer, more enjoyable (and lasting) end-game for all. I'm not talking about the reasons these people have because they're fair in their own way.
I'm just talking about this specific act, of leaving/refusing to play until another reset happens. They do it because, so far, it worked. Might take some time but it works.

So I think that perhaps a new approach should be attempted. Alongside system reworks, new content, new things to look forward and such, Jorb & Loftar should come forward and say exactly the opposite thing, like... "There WILL NOT be a reset at least until July 2018" (just an example) and write that on stone.

That way, all "attempts" to subvert the game and try to "force" a new world are pointless; people can either sit down and wait that long or find new purpose in the game, come back to it, etc... Of course, like I said, that won't work if not done alongside new content, improvements, reworking of systems, etc...

But, on the other way around, it is very distressing and worrying to work on huge building projects, terraforming projects, etc... having to live with the fear of being told of a reset soon. It drags me away from the game more and more, especially now that I'm on such big projects, and being this what attracts me to Haven (creating things, community, etc...) I must admit that I'm not sure if I'd remain in the game with such inconsistent cycles, never knowing if the 2 million dirt I've moved in a month was for nothing.

:P

I really like the idea of more persistent/permanent worlds - and we all know it is their ultimate goal - but then they must be the ones to strive for it, that must put their feet in place and say "No, we won't reset because you ask, reset will not come in at least x time, play it or stop whining" because the other way has clearly not worked so far :P although there's also the problem of... well... money. So yeah, it is indeed a tough question.
But honestly, if you ask me, I really hope W10 will - AT LEAST - get into 2018. If not more :D

Of course, this is just the way I see it as someone with long-lasting projects and such. I'm sure the game becomes boring or dull for the people that only care about grinding Q and have everything in a couple of weeks :P
But hey, maybe you guys should try massive building or community projects too xD

I agree with everything you've said, but this is an interesting thought worth quoting:

Massive projects unquestionably make the game more interesting for everyone. Even for pvpers who like to grief them.

It would be nice if they received more attention from the devs. Since we're expecting a few more resets until the worlds become permanent, players should have good incentives for pursuing them before that happens. Maybe they could be transported into new worlds as sort of ancient ruins, or maybe the devs should award the owner of the most successful ones with an (stealable) associated relic/cloak/weapon after the reset. Because what daniangione says could happen to him has already happened to other people, who simply stopped caring about creating large community projects because they're meaningness after a reset, and I believe it's safe to assume these projects are what keeps the game alive, more than pvp or nerfed permadeath or whatever.

It's unfortunate for you that long term projects are tasks taken on by a small group of people.

And I don't believe that there is a large group of people who hold the devs ransom to try to persuade a reset. This perception just comes from persistent acknowledgment. Fundamental elements to this game keep it from thriving longer than 3-4 months.

It goes from immersive goals that lead to establishment, then offers nothing for the establishment to truly work toward.

The moves making death less, if not entirely, meaningful is good in my opinion. And of course the die hards will contest this as breaking the core of which this game intends to be. But realistically, it's good for player retention and that will make the game more successful as time goes on. If you haven't noticed, as death becomes less relevant, the servers stays alive longer and there's a slower decline in population.

World resets however will simply be a part of the game until the map becomes more dynamic and the environment interacts with players in a more meaningful way. In my opinion, the attraction of this game is the raw undiscovered corners of a new world, and the drama of establishing a collective. But you get to the top of the stairs to find an endless hallway (quality grind) with no doors that lead to anything meaningful.

infrastructure projects or megaprojects are realistically the only thing you can do in this game outside of quality grind, combat, and exploring.

unfortunately, megaprojects are exponentially harder to do by one's self.
levelling a portion of land takes a LOT of time (or bots)
paving takes a LOT of time to both collect stone and to pave (or bots)
clearing forest trails for paved roads takes a LOT of time (or bots)

on top of this, there's no REAL reason to do it. there's no advantage of building. you literally dont need to build at all in this game, besides the workstations. houses are optional if you live underground. you can build a crossroads across the world with ~5,000 wood blocks OR a 3 tile wide paved road with 500,000 stones
Walls are set it and forget it. absolutely no modular capabilities. if you want to add walls later or expand, enjoy waiting literal days to get the job done.

Rant aside, what i'm asking for is some time taken by the devs to focus on construction. dynamic construction projects, incentives to pave roads (penalties to not paving roads) literally anything thats not armor, food, and PVP

because ultimately, all this game is about is armor, food, and PVP.
