Logic dictates this, yes, but such things just proves that man is not a fully logical being. We are capable of reason and logic, yet it all flies out the door when emotion takes over.

There are conflicting schools of thought on whether emotions dictate thoughts or thoughts dictate emotions. I'm of the opinion that the latter is correct, but one must learn and practice "good mental habits" to reinforce this, else we fall back into the "animalistic" rule of emotion controlled behavior. When sex is involved, it's entirely too easy to fall into such behavior, and bad patterns and cycles start emerging.

Most of what I've read indicates that emotions come first, or they have rights to "first place" when decisions are made. The reasoning behind this is that emotions came first in our evolutiinary development. Well second after what I've heard referred to as the reptile brain. Its also apparent in the format of the brains structure. The reptilian brain wrapped in the mammel brain and then the thin layer over the surface of that which is where our highest thought processes are believed to occur.

Everything goes through that reptile brain though, and for some people many other parts of the vrain are closed off. They are unable to access higher level thought patterns with sufficient "bandwidth" due to a lack of interconnectivity which leaves them in a state where decisions are made rapidly but carelessly.

If however you have experienced very little trauma in life, have maintained good nutrition levels and are educated and aware enough you can operate largely in an emotionless state.

That's not somewhere many people enjoy being for extended periods.

No human can operate in an emotionless state unless they're "defective." Hate to use that word, but short of genetic disorders or serious brain trauma, everyone experiences emotions.

Would like to share a bit more about the "Thoughts, attitudes, beliefs" theory, but my Google-fu seems to be rusty.
