A case in point is the Irish revolution (1916–23), where it may have been in use as early as May 1920. That month, members of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) used bottles of petrol and paraffin to set fire to a police barracks in Limerick. (...)

(...) By 1922, there is irrefutable evidence of the use of petrol bombs by the IRA; this time along the newly created Irish border. Contemporary documents reveal that local units – under the leadership of future Irish politician and international statesman Frank Aiken – had evolved their own form of the now familiar device, and were using it regularly in operations ranging from sectarian attacks on civilian homes to ambushes against the police and military.

Yeah. The Sticky Burning Liquid recipe that immolates. Frak'n beautiful, isn't it?

Images of military prowess and aristocrats dancing? How very jingoistic.
Oh, look, our class betters are celebrating how much more awesome life is for them than the lowly peasants!

I am so proud of Finland's Landed Gentry and their powdered courtiers!?!

And of course Finland participated in three major conflicts during World War II, all related to ongoing hostilities between Finland and the expansionist Soviet Union. As the Soviet Union changed ambiguous relations with Nazi Germany to battling the Nazis, this placed the Finns in the unusual situation of being for, then against, then for, the overall interests of the Allied powers.

Oh, fighting with the NAZI? Golly gosh, that's gotta be embarrassing for you!

For all of us, independence day is not a day for celebration. But a good chance to hold demonstrations. Or so they think.
Image
On the picture above you can see some neo-nazis marching on the streets of Helsinki right now.
"Towards the freedom" they say.

Image
On this image you can see some anti-neonazi people marching. "Helsinki without nazis" is the phrase that they use.

These happen yearly and there are a few problems with these. Few individuals think that it is a good reason to start vandalizing things.
Image
Lots of police are around them, making sure that nothing bad would occur. Some have already been arrested though, and probably more will be.
One of the main issues is that anti-nazis and neonazis march at the same time, in the same area. Encountering of those two parties is a thing to be avoided.

The most traditional handshaking marathon begins with the veterans. Sadly there is less and less of them year by year, and even more of them have special equipment.

It was a great day with lots of celebration. Everything went quite traditionally. Except for a big firework show in beautifully illuminated helsinki.

They also illuminated a whole fjell with blue light in northern Finland, which is kind of cool.
