No it is not, chess skill is definitely correlated with intelligence. Is an idiot who has played 2000 matches going to beat a genius who is playing for the first time? Of course. Is an idiot who has played 2000 matches going to lose to a genius who has played 2000 matches? Of course. Every game is correlated with intelligence.

Contrarian as always I see.

My main point is simply that chess is not significantly different from another game like League of Legends, in that time spent studying and practicing the game itself brings you knowledge that is really only applicable to that game, and is something that cannot be circumvented by pure cognitive ability.

You said one thing and meant another. How am I to know you don't mean what you say? Chess skill is correlated with intelligence, it just is. Does that mean a very intelligent person will ever beat a very experienced player? No.

If every other factor were a constant, dumb players would be outplayed by smart players. I'd say the reason for what you said is that smart men are not attracted to such careers.

No, it's that concussions, which are associated with American footbal (NFL) and things like heading a football (soccer for us Americans), make you dumber.

Aside from that, though, there are always exceptions, and you have to have a sort of training and intelligence to excel in any physical sport, so you can't be stupid and be good, even if the rest of your cognitive abilities are lacking or have been ruined because of too many shots to the head.

You're correct, and a strong intelligence helps in absorbing the game. When all other things are equal, the smarter player usually has the upper hand, just as Nooby says. Players that lack a creative intelligence can't anticipate or develop deeper strategies* needed to play any game or sport on a higher level. (*In the case of team sports, the coach usually comes up with the strategies, but it takes smarts to implement such plays and be able to read the opponents to successfully execute.)

I forgot this was a thread talking about jorb and loftar fighting.
I think that jorbtar should live stream a traditional Greek style wrestling match to put an end to this debate. Clothing, obviously, is forbidden.
Either that or a sumo match.

How about a true competition of wit and brawn? Chess boxing

From this picture we see that loftar has a larger head, indicating a bigger brain. He may use his superior intellect to use dirty tricks in the fight while jorb just uses mindless punches.

Here we see that loftar also has wider shoulders, which correlates with higher upper body strength. Not only is he more intelligent, but he seems to be stronger as well. We haven't seen any of their legs yet though.

From this we may conclude that jorb is shortsighted. Either he would have to wear glasses, which gives him a weak point, or he would be at a severe disadvantage.

While loftar is clearly superior in every way so far, jorb has homeless man facial hair, indicating he might try a wildcard approach to the fight. With Jorb, you never know. I'd bet my money on loftar though. I think jorb would get absolutely decked in <1min.

Jorb would probably win, loftar is clearly someone who has spend majority of his life behind a screen, his bone density and muscle tone probably very weak.

Not that Jorb is much better but still I think hed win, he look like he been in some fights back in his homeless days.
