LoL added in too much "money grab" crap, simplified combat too much, and overall just screwed the genre up too much. I've liked DOTA since... 2004? I hate the hour+ games that both turn into and moved on to Heroes of the Storm. It loses a lot of the player skills that were developed with DOTA and LoL, but it balances it so much better and games are relatively short at 15-20 minutes... it's an odd one that takes more than 30.

I like both LoL and DOTA tbh, HotS can get fucked tho

also fuck Hearthstone, used to love that game but the way it is designed is beyond a joke, acts like a f2p game but if you want to actually realistically compete you need to pay constantly and then everything you buy becomes redundant so I cant even go back to it unless I want to fork out another wad of cash, no thanks!

I strongly disagree. PUBG does the 'last man standing' thing really well, with its focus on sheer survival causing incredibly tense moments even if it's not interesting to watch. Fortnite, meanwhile, is a lot more about just fucking around, and the competitive part is more like a twitch shooter than a tense tactical experience like PUBG; I feel it completely ruins the battle royale concept. Sure, it can be fun in other ways, but if we talk about design, it's pretty clear Fortnite's battle royale mode is tacked on and the game design doesn't fit the mode.

I think you're a bit behind the times. PUBG isnt even worth being compared to, it was a broken, buggy ass game on release and they never fixed it, now its history.

Either way neither of them compare to Fortnite which is superior in every regard.

Popularity does not equate quality. There are tons of really shitty MMOs that are much, much more popular than Haven. That doesn't mean Haven is bad; it's just for a smaller niche audience. Similarly, PUBG's 'lie down in the grass on a hill for two minutes straight listening to the slightest noises and hoping nobody notices you' is definitely not for everyone, and Fortnite is better for fucking around which is an experience a lot more people are interested in. That does not make Fortnite 'superior in every regard'.

I've played a ton of both fortnite and pubg and I can say fortnite is objectively a better game by whatever quantitative criteria you want to use to measure the quality of a game. PUBG deserved to die and it is dying, I just feel bad for all the people who tried to become PUBG "pros" and signed up for teams like TSM etc because their game sunk like a log as soon as black ops came out (and rightly so, black ops is an actually functional game).

No different than Magic or any other CCG/TCG, though. At least with Magic, I found ways to "not pay" for my cards like trading heavily and doing a ton of volunteer work promoting and helping run tournaments. This is pretty much why I hate any of the online CCGs that don't support trading... and of the ones that do, too many of them just remind me of Magic and that I just need to pony up the cash to start playing MTGO (no, not arena... that's just MTG CCG since you can't trade.)

I'll play HS, but won't ever be anything more than a filthy casual because I don't have the cash to dump into or the desire to pump enough time into grinding for gold and dust for cards.

at least with magic once youve got a card, youve got it for good and its part of your expanding collection (i assume, never really got into it)

hearthstone does a thing where every couple of expansions, it wipes the slate clean, except for a selection of "basic" cards, everything else becomes non-standard and you typically then turn it into dust which can be spent on creating new cards at 1/4th loss in value every time (or become a faggy "wild" mode player)

so basically you can have spent a ton of money like me and dont have much to show for it because the value of what you own becomes 1/4th every few expansions

at least I can say I got into legend and beat the best player so I can quit happily
