Discord for example, could at any moment just leak all of your messages and images and other information.
They could also make their platform shit with ads and limitations.
If their servers crash, which often happens, you can't do anything.

You may think that then you can just change to some other platform.
But its not that easy, it will take a long time to find some good one and get enough people to move into using it.
Some people may refuse to move away from discord right away, and then you must use discord if you want to chat with them.

These days you must have like 10 000 subscribers and 1000 hours worth of videos watched in the last year to be able to put ads on your videos.
I doubt that people who post PVP videos meet these requirements.

If you want VOIP, you should use something like mumble, discord voice servers suck.

Mumble requires someone to set up a server, which is most likely going to have some sort of cost to it (unless you're like passing around the server on a free trial of a hosting or cloud service) and have some sort of technical know-how.

Discord is free and doesn't need any real technical setup.

I see, I never really used any of those bigger Mumble servers when I used it. So I don't have much experience with them.

And a discord server is 0 a month while also having irc like functionally and video chat (though discord really needs to add auto focus on whoever is talking for that, I use Hangouts always over discord because of that). That packaging of different features into one app, even if there are other applications that do specific functionality better can be pretty nice.

Even with Mumble your still at the whims of whatever stability the server you are connected to has.
