It's hard to justify being a merchant when you can get everything from 1 continent.

There will be no next world, but that aside, I agree. It gives more incentive to explore the world and trade. Trade posts and colonization goes hand in hand.
I would also like to see the ability to specialize even more. Make it so a (super) specialization is very hard to achieve, but very rewarding. For instance focusing on being VERY good at making a certain item. A cutblade master or a scythe master? To make this viable there should not be possible to bot ones way to mastery (not sure how to avoid that though).
