If you are playing what's the reason? Playing in world 16 still? Waiting for feedback to start playing? Or just not going to play? Why?

people are seriously sleeping on how much this 16.1 vs 17 thing did.

optics matter so much tbh. i have a feeling this world is a world 4 transitory world

next world can see great player counts like last one with a similarly small world+real number+real update (OCO)+really hype it up+world identity

To be fair, it wasn't just the name they gave the world - the patch notes also amounted to "we're changing almost nothing we feel like telling you about, good luck"
I know jorb loves his jorb of discovery autism but the fact is, a lot of people don't. If you don't lead with what you're changing, why would I want to play the exact same game over again with all the exact same settings?

i should have explained that, with a world having identity.

if a world launches with layer 10+lava, OCO, a bunch of really cool shit and new biomes, definitely show it off. fluff it up. tell us about changes, get us hype. i agree, if he told us early game speed was 2x it might have been different. he needs to ennumerate his changes and sell them. gotta sell 'em. he's sellin.

Ya that seemed rather thoughtless to me, a development process that is basically akin to throwing things at the wall and see what sticks. It affects almost every mechanical aspect of the game and to ramp it up or down should surely involve making changes elsewhere to account for a dramatic increase or decrease in the flow of time. The most prominent effect obviously being the increased LP gain, but no changes relating to that like increasing the cost of skills either criminal or otherwise were made.

Is this really the case? The world seems much bigger than the last one. I'd like for it to be even bigger, of course, because bigger = better.

In the beginning was the Radio Silence, and the Radio Silence was with Jorbtar, and the Radio Silence was Jorbtar.
The same was in the beginning with Jorbtar.
All updates were made by them; and without them was not any update made that was made.
In them was development; and that development was the light of hearthlings.

It is completely ridiculous to me that you guys complain about the world being sped up.
It is what a lot of people asked about. Specifically asked for shorter worlds with quicker progression. I know, getting something you asked for is unusual, but seriously wtf?
Even if we ignore that, world is referred to as experimental and you lose your shit over things being tested out?

Personally I enjoy the sped up world a lot, just throw some longer curios in your desk and you'll be fine lol.
Faster leather drying and tanning is quite nice. The only thing that actually feels wrong to me is the speeding up of claim drying, since it leaves less time for you to spot someone staking one right next to you.
I guess PvP crowd might not be too happy with the increased speed, less time to harass people, palis getting up quicker, drying faster and quests having less of an impact.

I like that things are faster, but the way that things were sped up didn't decrease the total amount of work that needs to be done in most cases, it just made it so the same amount of work needs to be done in a shorter period to "keep up".

I think when people ask for "sped up", they're more thinking stuff like:
  • cheaper skills
  • easier travel
  • credos taking far fewer quests
  • recipes costing less materials
  • massively increased XP gains
  • rare/good curios more common
  • lower strength reqs for mining
  • more common ore

I can understand why that might be too much effort, though. Multiple branches cringe, etc

Stuff that does feel rly nice tho is:
  • faster leather (need to build less tubs)
  • faster hide drying (need to build less frames)
  • faster crops (so ez to get early wax/cloth)
  • faster wound regen

Disagree. Benefits for the average player apply just as much to the hardcore player killers and vice versa. Everything being sped up means you have to be online more often and more vigilant in checking out your surrounding area for foreign claims and constructions. I'd argue the pvp crowd probably loves how this early world start has gone so far, if that wasn't already evident by them stating that they are essentially "unchecked gods" at the moment.
