Democracy to the extreme where all issues are voted on by the population rather than being negotiated between representatives of the population. In the age of nearly instantaneous information sharing, it's possible, but I don't think it wise.

Potjeh was specifically saying that lobbying goes against the foundations of democracy (all types), and I was agreeing.

There is obviously a difference between representative democracy and direct democracy, but when one refers to just "democracy" it is normal to mean "representative democracy" as we don't really have examples of real world direct democracy.

Aye. I was trying to clear up for Shubla what was probably meant. The problem with any democracy is the same as with any other form of government where those that make decisions can be influenced by various means. Graft and corruption (ie lobbyists) are just the nature of politics. Democracy aims to minimize it via more voices. After all, it's much easier fool a few minds rather than many.

The downside with American politics is the ratio of representatives to population to wealth. It's severely skewed towards high wealth and too few representatives per capita.

@Shubla: yeah, it's been suggested. I know I've seen an news article or two on it through tech news sites like Wired. I'm not sure what kind of formal writings there are, though, to try to prove or disprove the concept. The ability to collect and track votes has always be the hindrance of such ideas in the past.

US politics are a joke. Two parties to choose from.
And you say you have freedom.

Your country is worse than many many others.

Worse than many and better than many. Political issue isn't just an American issue. It is a human issue.

The nation-state remains the true foundation for happiness and harmony.

Sadly, even when I firmly believe that the presidential election period is just a glorified forum war, I cannot even argue with this...
