As many people in this thread stated, Democracy can be interpreted into two forms of democracy:
- Direct Democracy- The people themselves
- Representative Democracy- The representative of the people.
The term democracy is not strictly limited to these two alone, there is parliament democracy and totalitarian democracy.
For clarifications, what jacobian means when he says the United States does not have a democracy is that he means direct democracy and we have a representative democracy which is also can be called a republic. From what he is sayig, the United States does not have a direct democracy. This is due to the fact that the Constitution protects the right of the people from the majority. Admittedly it is not a perfect system, nor is the democratic/republic government that the American people have but it does function to keep semblance of order.
I hope that clears up any confusions that people have been stating about democracy to you. If you have any additional question, feel free to respond or PM me.
Cheers!
Jacobian said, USA is NOT democracy.
USA IS representative republic.
But representative republic IS democracy, therefore, USA is democracy.
Simple logic.
