But 8 out of 10 suck BAD and aren't really a viable option. I bet the curio window windows of almost everyone in the game look pretty much the same, with the only difference being the quality of the things in there.

Perhaps, but if so, isn't that the real and proper complaint of this thread?

Well then, can we get a list of fate affected curiosities?

I mean, it would be fair to give us the possibility of crossing out biomes one by one instead of going "hmm well I didn't find anything here I still have no idea what my fate is". That or add lore maybe that points that I don't know, you feel at home most in a swamp? Like this guy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wR-MrJwqcFc ( the black guy being my fate currently it seems.. for everything )

For me, it is. I haven't found a single fate curio yet, unless bolete is one. I gave up on foraged ones and I gave up on pearls after about 15-20 cupboards of boiled mussels.
My problem is that the vast majority is just useless. You'd think high quality deer antlers, what with the extreme weight and high-ish experience cost would be good, short-ish, but it'd be more efficient spamming cone cows than that. I can do without Fate curios entirely but it'd be much more enjoyable if the other cupboards of curios you find all the time, and the ones you can make, were an option to use. I know they ARE technically an option, but you'd rather keep looking for steak instead of settling for the turd, wouldn't you? And to to have an okay study window right now, you need to constantly forage for the ones that aren't total crap, and craft the few ones that also aren't.

I'd just wish the existing curios were more balanced, get rid of fate ones for all I care.

That's actually the point I've been attempting to make for a while. The fate system isn't a problem, the general nerfing of many curios and the significant loss of good foraged curio variety is the real pinch.

If fate curios were BETTER, I suppose, and kept as rare or rarer, but also buff or balance existing curiosities, it would be a lot better.

Basically for me and I'm guessing a lot of other people, it all boils down to the fact that the curio selection and balance feels like it has been knocked out of whack. The top foraged curios of legacy have been removed from the general forage progression.
What used to be the main staple diet of studies is now extremely rare and nothing is there to replace it.
The entire range of foragable curios feels disjointed and randomly designed hap hazardly rather than with a linear progression now.

It doesn't help that no-one understands the fate system but that's not the crux of the issue.
The issue is that all the top end forages were taken out of the normal ladder and not replaced with anything.
Fate curios really should have been entirely new rather than disrupting the standards.
