a lens to keep the fire starter in a dry safe place while exploring in the sunshine - also as reflector for sunbeams in case of spotting ships or planes (also it's good for First Aid -> small Splinters that can cause infections)

this thread makes no sense if u dont put some restrictions on it otherwise the obvious answer is a helicopter or boat

if you're limiting it to things you can fit in backpack then I guess my answer is

1) Locating beacon / distress signal device of some sort
2) Book on how to survive in wild
3) Sleeping bag
4) Food
5) Water distillation kit

Plan: Firstly, create a makeshift shelter. Secondly, learn how to gather food and hopefully get the hang of it before I run out of stock. Third, wait for rescue crew to locate distress signal.

Seriously, though. These things mentioned here are nice, but you can learn to adapt with about anything at hand. a belt buckle, a rock, a piece of plastic...

Can't build a craft capable of flight, but as long as there is wood, or anything else that will float, you can get a boat together. you hit the nail with the book on survival, though, but only as long as it is appropriate to the general region. Too many plants and animals that are toxic, and a bout of intestinal distress can be lethal, especially if fresh water is scarce.

Sure as a north european i'd prolly survive on the european continent or northamerica fine without taking anything with me but an empty plastik bottle and a small pocketknife ... somewhere else i'd be LOST very soon probably ...
