Curious - if you have the gate claimed, can't you put a new lock on the gate?

Fuck you if you think every hermit needs to make alts to emergency bash palisade walls just in case :)

I believe you still need the master key to change a lock whether the gate is on a claim or not.

He is right though, this is probably the main reason why this game can't retain new players. What is obvious to us isn't so to clueless players who just started the game. How are they supposed to know these things?

1: why didn't you have your key on an alt vualt?
2: why didn't you make spare keys?
3: why did you wait for the palisade to harden before trying to get out?
4: if someone had been in your base why wouldn't you change the keys just in case they made a spare to get in.
5:why didn't you have alts outside to bash your wall just in case this happened?

Even the words you use aren't familiar to them. What are "alts" and, geez, "alt vaults"? What's this with "palisade harden"? And how would they know they should only start their palisade after they have also acquired the completely unrelated skill locks & bolts, and also understand perfectly the interactions between locks, master keys, and slave keys (and know, for example, that a keyless lock can't be replaced even when it's within their own claim)? Even the concept of gradual soak is alien. It only makes sense to me because I know w7 had a setting time for walls and this is based on that, otherwise I wouldn't be able to understand what's it about.

the way i see it, if someones too dumb to learn a few basics of a game by at the very least visiting the forums, they're too stupid to EVER succeed at said game.
Newbie and noob do not mean the same thing.

Neither do figuratively and literally.

You shouldn't say that. Just because your new doesn't mean you can't learn edventually. Also to all who have pointed out my advice was literally useless. Yes i should have worded that better and explained it more. At this point tho i think its been fairly well explained in this thread.

Ignore him. He's just busy being the other 50% of why people don't stick to Haven. There's so little information on the wiki that you have to pick a few things up from the players and every thread that gets posted asking a question gets flooded with either 'Check the wiki' or 'Get gud'. Every new-player-thread has at least two pricks calling everyone new and bad.

I still don't know if there are metal arrows in this game, and I actually discovered a curio I didn't know existed by complete accident. I think I'm gonna find whoever's maintaining the wiki and put forth a concerted effort to do new player guides, player-game interaction guides, and updated info, because the disinformation and amount of 'Unconfirmed Legacy' garbage on the wiki is making my head spin.

I am thinking the problem stems from a plant of truths that states that there is maybe 0-1 people who are maintain the wiki. I can be thankful for you to put the time in to fix it. The wikipedia is very much disaster at this moment's present.

Point me in the right direction and I'd make it a full-time job to update the garbage/outdated information there, and do some actual new player guides. The game needs a community but it's pretty hard when probably 50% of the playerbase doesn't natively speak english.

I quoted you but didn't mean you specifically btw. It's usual to see legitimate noob questions being answered like "port back to hf or enter your gate to trigger the visitor debuff" and those words only make sense to us.
And this too
