Actually, I do. There's 179.6 Iron Crowns in the payment cupboards at the Shiomi Academy Trading Post right now, plus 65.4 Iron Crowns in my home.

Personally I would not believe for a second that a faction would not exploit a fiat currency given an opportunity. My faction and village mates will be boycotting all trade that involves anything other than gold, silver, or direct bartering.

On the issue of "direct bartering", most trades done by smaller traders are effectively in this manner anyways.

Person A goes to a barter stand and sells his wax for 10 coins. Right away he then goes to another barter stand and uses the 10 coins to buy a sprucecap.

The trade was effectively wax for sprucecap.

The only folks who keep currency around are those who have their own barterstands (aka Shiomi).

On the topic of currency, I do feel the current state of things are fine and dynamic given the geopolitical landscape.

Or if the owners of the currency want whatever it is they're trading they just print 100 coins and take it from you. I don't know how anyone would trust a currency that isn't gold.

It would be nice if currency was more meaningful than being reduced to the transition between bartering objects. I think that's why so many opinions are being shared. Some people I guess would like to see a currency with more potential.

Free choice of folks setting up barter stands. I assume people can weigh the risk/rewards and judge whether the benefits of having their stands using another faction's currency is worth it.

Benefits: larger market appeal, you don't have to have as much things for sale, less hassle in maintaining currency circulation
Risks: shenanigans from the faction minting coins

If you want to be competitive your only choice is to create your own currency and set a reasonable exchange rate for the other currencies involved. For example VDZ I believe you'd be better off selling items at your market for a currency of your own type and offering that currency at a 2 for 1 exchange rate with the Sevillian Crown or whatever you feel might be suitable. Obviously this could be adjusted later on based on how well your own currency is doing versus the crown.

Financial warfare. That's an interesting concept, I'm glad you shared it.

I don't understand what's the problem you guys have. If you don't like Crowns just make your own currency. You need a special thread to unerstand that? lol

Agreed. It feels almost not worth the risks unless it's robust.
