Not at all. IRC is a protocol, not a client; with the right clients you get all the features you want from Discord, except for

This is the only thing Discord has over IRC, but I never see people actually using voice chat in Discord, only text chat.

Mate, did you even read my post? Security/privacy concerns were never an issue with Discord for me. Open-source has many other advantages, including diversity of client programs as explained in the post you responded to. And it's not just plain diversity for personal preferences; not having a central authority responsible for all features makes sure features get implemented if people care enough, for example IRC has had spoiler tags (using its text colors) for as long as I can remember, while Discord only implemented them like a month ago or so after years of not having them.

What, and you think Discord is full of high quality discussion and readable? Average quality of Discord chats is much lower than on forums like these, and Discord just being a stream of messages (distributed over a handful of channels) makes it much harder to keep track of conversation (and Discord's search utterly sucks) while forums have neat categorization and threads to organize discussion.

Discord for example, could at any moment just leak all of your messages and images and other information.
They could also make their platform shit with ads and limitations.
If their servers crash, which often happens, you can't do anything.

And you think basically all of social media or any forum you visit is any different? Cute.

Rizon and SynIRC have been stable and non-shit for AGES. This forum likewise is very reliable and other than some posters the quality isn't decreasing over time.

Discord also has video chat, though like I say in a previous comment it's still missing some key features for me.

Also, are you sure about voice chat not really being that yard? Yeah in public discords I rarely see people in voice there, but I think most people use private discords or groups for voice.

whether people like discord or not is pretty irrelevant because the fact is everyone uses it so feel free to stay stuck in the past and miss out on conversations lol

I think every man misses out on conversations every second of every day. Discord or forum, number of conversation you will miss out on dwarfs number of conversation you will participate in.

- Free server hosting (arguably you can find free IRC servers)
- Inline image and gif sharing (this is a big one)
- Link previewing
- Friend list
- Avatars
- Emojis/emotes
- Server-pushed scrollback, including parts you were offline for (no need for keeping your own logs)
- In-client powerful search feature
- Voice chat, as mentioned
- 1 on 1 video calling
- User friendly
- Used by actual human beings

Not to mention the IRC clients for windows are pretty much all total shit, especially when held next to the Discord client
i guess they never miss huh

Based on this thread, and the amount of real humans that play this game, this could be the most active forums per capita of any game in the world today.

Discord is bloated software running on top of browser. Uses way too much ram and cpu, fetching message history is slow etc. etc. Servers down all the time. Web application sucks on mobile.

IRC has powerful search feature as well, even more powerful than discord has, because you have full access to ALL of your logs at all times.

Many things that you listed are actually disadvantages, such as not being able to have logs on your own computer for offline usage. (Discord also may at any moment decide to just not keep infinite backlog of messages.)
Some useless shit like friend list, avatars and emojis are not worth using some shitty platform.
1 on 1 video calling is a very marginal feature, that 99.99% users never use.

If you want to chat with text, discord is a shitty platform.
If you want to speak via VOIP, discord is a shitty platform.
If you want to make video calls, there are other, probably better, free alternatives. I have never used this feature, but I don't think it works very well. (They cannot get even audio channels work without lag and packet loss, so they are probably even worse with video)

Discord is a shit platform that tries to do too many things at once, failing in most of them. Only reason why people use it is because people use it.
Discord will probably die off soon. So far they have been getting lots of funding from investors, but investors are not doing it for charity, soon they want that their investments start to pay back. Chances that they start to do things that users don't like in an attempt to generate money is quite high. Happened with pretty much all social media platforms so far (youtube, facebook, skype...). But IRC and other open source softwares such as Mumble, do not have any of these issues.

There's tons of discord channels to choose from, if you don't like the people in the server you can mute/leave, if you don't like the mods you can mute/leave. Many of the discords are way, way better than this forum, and there's plenty of reasons people use discord over the forums.
