Factor that contributes to the PvP being dead is that the game has trash combat system.

There were no caps in Legacy, and I seem to recall that having a fair bit more PvP, though I'm not entirely sure why.

There was einher buff and personal beliefs change/tradition slider that helped the pvp out alot, I think you got it right back in legacy.

Name a game where infinite character growth that involves PvP is successful.

Stat caps were short lived and hardly tried whereas infinite growth has resulted in population dwindling to a couple of hundred every time. You can't take a break from this game without getting fucked, thats why no one comes back until world restart. The few that keep playing are the only ones that are pro infinite growth. But this game wont have player retention or a sizable new player flow with infinite character growth and infinite industry quality spiraling. It's like joining in late to a game of monopoly.

Most people don't pvp anymore because the combat is pretty dumb in 1v1s, group combat is laggy, big fights are way too stat/numbers based, the game as whole is a dreadful grind if you want a competitive pvp capable character, and bots are basically a necessity for industry because stuff like crops and metal benefits massively from 24/7 attention. The changes this world with roads and oceans also made getting to fights way more unreasonable, but I already made a thread about that.

The devs lack of knowledge regarding any competitive stuff makes the chances of them making positive changes seem like a coin-flip. If you play competitively, you're literally playing a different game from the devs because they don't really understand the game, and it makes it really frustrating when the devs obviously don't really care about your playstyle. So, a lot of the pvpers just quit. I also doubt the devs really care about appealing to the competitive players anyway.

Isn't group combat laggy because it's mainly running large distances instead of being more static and thus laggy because of the amount of maps to load? So it's only partly a technical problem and the other a behaviour one?

Do you think having something like large sieging campaigns including supporters that are not combatants would help with interest in playing?

players should just do wrestling and not run around jungles and stuff.
Like fighting inside a house, there the lag is not even notice-able.

No? My fps doesn't die from boating around in a knarr for a few hours, it dies the instant a million moving characters all decked out with a million different equipment items enter the screen.

Sieges already have people trying to gather support by buying brimstone through discord. It's just that sieging is ass so no one does it. And I don't think sieging is sustainable to maintain people's interests.

Growing majority isn't interested in PvP

Many ppl even don't hunt anymore because they don't like that Tactical Mini Deck Game which is "Combat"

PvP is overvalued ...

I must admit I am one of the people who play this game like Stardew valley or Farmville.
I like the relaxation of it.

Me too. I'm in love with the atmosphere and writing, and I most definitely play like those games. I've branched a little into punching animals in the face but this is out of necessity.
