Have you ever heard of the concept going by the name of "memes"?

Memes used to be a type of in-joke that provided humor while reinforcing a sense of comradeship. Over time the humor component seems to have for a large part eroded, and they've increasingly been weaponized as a way to safely demean others ("I'm just memeing bro") while virtue signaling to your own group. It's a strawman that social etiquette dictates cannot be called out as a strawman. You are essentially saying "Well, you are incapable of individual thought because no doubt you also endorse <list of organizations>!", but because you're "just memeing" it's inappropriate to call you out for directly attacking someone with blatant generalizations (and you're even trying to spin the attacked defending himself as inappropriate). Hostile memes may be the most insidious development in modern communication trends. Fuck your memes. If you're going to insult someone, have some balls and do it straight to their face instead of hiding behind "just a prank bro".

(Which is not to say I support MadNomad's absurd ramblings (quite the opposite; I myself still wear a facemask in busy places even if nobody else is doing it) but I can't stand this kind of dishonesty. It bothers me because it's a method of attacking someone that allows no option to defend oneself against it other than stooping to the same level, replacing proper arguments with claims that appeal to gut feeling in a race to the bottom. It's cowardly and harmful to discussion.

I fully agree that MadNomad is just parroting misinformation and sophistry he's heard elsewhere, but you're adding a lot of bullshit to that, making you unconvincing (except to those already fully convinced and eager to be reinforced in that opinion) even though you were mostly right before the exaggeration. (It also implies MadNomad is just ignorant and bears no malicious intent, while he was very obviously trolling; I'm not even sure if he at all agrees with the post he's made or if he just posted it to bait people like you. I certainly didn't feel his 'arguments' held water enough to be worth refuting.)

If you're truly right, stating truthful observations and conclusions should be sufficient as argument. Diluting it with bullshit only serves to degrade discussion, polarize people and cause needless hostility.
