I believe it's supposed to be possible to play as if it were. H & H is supposed to have enough scope for solo players and groups, and for peaceful players and pvpers. It has always had enough variety and room to even support players who don't hunt. You might be surprised about the number of players who find combat boring and only do it enough to gain a few essential supplies. You hear much more from the players who thinking fighting and competing is important, but that's not because they outnumber the peaceful settlers. It's because peaceful settlers aren't competitive enough to try to dominate the forums.

If you have ever traveled in early worlds the number and size of active claims should easily provide the evidence that a higher percentage of the players are essentially playing solo or with one partner, as compared to the number that play as members of large groups.

People walking by robbing your stuff, or destroying everything before the P=Claim dries is very annoying , especially because they get nothing out of it so its done purely for spite. Way around that might be to wait a month until the population dies down before playing, when people are sticking to their bases and not out stealing.

one thing they could gain is discouraging other players from living in wrong areas (too close to highq resources, swamp or one’s own base)
also pclaim bash patrol will continue until morale improves

Shitting on every pclaim within a few minimaps of your base is just good long term strategy in the early game, and that's a fact

it also makes would be new players quit, if everytime they login all their things are destroyed, they get frustrated and leave. Not sure what the solution is, some people are just terrible.
