That's quite an interesting way of interpreting the social dynamics, thanks for sharing it, I shall ponder over my failure to provide gankers with enough joy and fulfillment XD

No, seriously, that shit's philosophic as heck, kudos!

Lately I've been thinking about what it would be like if crime had an LP or XP cost associated with it instead of an SHP cost. There are certainly problems that could occur depending on the way it would be implemented such as players simply trying to defend themselves having trouble with the LP/XP costs or are unable to cover them for whatever reason, but I think it could be interesting to try something different out at least. If the game can differentiate between aggressor and defender in a fight that might help alleviate some of the issue a bit.

Could be a base cost every time, cost could scale in some way, or cost could raise exponentially depending on the number of crimes committed in X amount of time, or some other method of dealing with the cost. Might just incentivize alts further, who knows. It's not like alts are getting any less prevalent anyways though.

they fail at pathfinding for gods sake.

the "gankers" are you bandit npcs. they are the reason you build intricate wall designs, why every tour on a river in your dugout is harrowing, and why you dont leave the base with your farmer, the inventory full of subscription tokens,

the gankers are your npcs.

and you are theirs.

you even get a better deal out of that, they make your game a true survival experience once you found out how to cheese animals,

for them you are just unrewarding lootgoblins, giving them shitty nettle pants.
i doubt you ever reached the point where you actually give them building materials for cool chairs , or a mug.

Was about to say, with the innovation of Grass clothes there is actually 0 stakes to losing clothing. Literally grinding out a 3 slot survival item is as easy as 100 cut grass. I am going foraging with gaurd patches these days cause why the fuck not, grass clothes is such an efficient gilding grind that losing clothes barely matters.

IMO early world ganking is bad rn because its setting peoples palisades behind and forcing them to move but after peoples palisades are up, a KO will hardly be even a setback.

inb4 the "git gud" circlejerk starts in the comments - I shall be talking to Jorb and Loftar directly.

These are your people. This vile ungodly twisted miasma of a community is your creation - and yours only. As developers, you deliberately cater to this lowest of the low common denominator, stroking their throbbing bloody-red phalli until they ejaculate a gory puddle of pus and go to sleep, completely satisfied with their little obedient Igors (that would be you, Jorb and Loftar).

As developers, you do everything in your limited shoddy power for this game to retain its sick and sadistic appeal to the "core community", a group of psychopats who lost all of their inner humanity to hentai porn and bootleg alcohol a long time ago.

As developers, you cowardly cover behind lousy excuses and bend over backwards to please every sweatpants-clad imbecile who stuck with you for several years, all the while quenching his thirst for inflicting mindless violence and spreading misery the only way he (or, at this point, rather, it!) only able to.

As developers, times and times again you've had the opportunity to widen your own game's horizons from being a maniac's blood and sperm covered playtoy to become something bigger and much more beautiful.

But, as developers, you've failed every last one of your decent players, you've failed your own creation and, ultimately, you've failed yourselves.

Therefore, as developers, you are the amalgamation of this mindset, you are the sick and twisted ooze in place of a heart and brain of the "core community". You. Are. To. Blame.

Tl;dr got ganked, stuff taken, annoyed and venting.

P.S. Why don't we implement "no stealing unless from a corpse" mechanic? Because realism? Shieeet, let the gankers cut off the dick, too, beacuse realism, ptohibiting inheritance. Because realism, yeah! That's probably for C&I tho :D

I can assure you the devs have personally experienced or at least witnessed all the same degenerate behavior you have. There are safeguards against some of the worst shit, and even a lone hermit playing cleverly can make it incredibly unrewarding for sweatlords to gank or besiege him. When you deal with griefers, be prepared, give them nothing, laugh at them and move on. There is nothing more disappointing for them than being ignored and outfoxed by people with people who sink a fraction of the hours they do into the game.

I would keep your suggestions about PvP balance very specific to avoid feeding the trolls, they thrive on discussion topics like this one. Oh, and bear in mind, those griefers dump a ton of money into the game, so despite them driving off new players, they are valuable customers. Don't expect the devs to make mechanics that will make their 'lifestyle' difficult.

I understand all that, but sometimes the desire to vent overcomes the "don't play into the bully's hands" concept.

It would mean to toss your balls overboard as anchor to make a sharp and otherwise impossible turn in your ship. It would likely hurt your scrotum, but it implies that you have drooping heavy balls to begin with.

I don't think "tldr' means whay you think it means ;) But thank you for reading, I myself is very pleased with raw unbridled emotion and tried to pack as much bile and anger into that short story as possible. Try to re-read it sometimes, it'll grow on you, I promise!
