I dont' know about content not going stale as fast... pretty much every RL gets stale really fast and its the random world generation and "beating my high score" that keeps people playing them. Otherwise, the genre would have died out in the 80s. Instead, the concept just keeps getting bigger and bigger as time goes on.
You can't really compare a standalone game to an MMO as MMOs have always progressed significantly slower. If someone were to even attempt to make a true RL MMO, they'd fail because one of the criteria is the random world generation. This is going to be the closest you get.
