I don't mind the idea of significant injuries, things that take a lot of resources/time to fix. Broken bones could put you out of commission for a month or so... and have severe stat penalties. Perma-damage is a different beast and I'm interested to read ideas.

The old age thing is a bit unfair - completely unavoidable. The best players should be able to avoid perma-damage to an extent.

You could also consider perma-damages as damages you heal with constitution food.

Even FTL is more of a rogue-like than this, and you'd see purists argue it isn't a rogue-like at all because muh criteria.

In any case, most roguelikes have a much faster cycle of death and rebirth, the losses/time investments are much less, the content doesn't go as stale as fast with every rebirth, a heavy/full focus on PvE, etc.

Permanent damage is actually a fun concept - especially as a newb; getting hit by a boar and getting a fell slash tells me; ouch, okay, let's avoid that.
But then again, boars and up i'm fine with ^^ Foxes? not as much.

I don't have a problem with this being rogue-like, but I think that the inheritance system needs tweaking.

Irl, children aren't born when their parents die. They are raised by their parents and learn from them. The previous generation passes on knowledge to the next. It might seem slow, but with new technologies developing the process is quite fast.

Yet in the game, your new character needs to make all the discoveries for themselves, and starts with no education. Yeah they inherit parents' property, but on its own it's not that realistic.

In most case IRL children have 2 parents and family to help, just have alts to feed junior with best curios and food.

I dont' know about content not going stale as fast... pretty much every RL gets stale really fast and its the random world generation and "beating my high score" that keeps people playing them. Otherwise, the genre would have died out in the 80s. Instead, the concept just keeps getting bigger and bigger as time goes on.

You can't really compare a standalone game to an MMO as MMOs have always progressed significantly slower. If someone were to even attempt to make a true RL MMO, they'd fail because one of the criteria is the random world generation. This is going to be the closest you get.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

presently, i can heal the damage i have taken from animals, slowly, but i can. Which is great. All I need to know is, that when i end up getting killed by some huge monster of a player, the HHP damage that i deal with my futile dying attacks lasts FOREVER. make damage from players scar or something. So long as aggressors eventually get worn down. I definitely don't expect to live forever, it's perma-death after all. Scarring seems like a good way.
