*Edit* Just an example. Went to eat at a Mexican restaurant with a couple friends. Love the food there, and they had recently moved into a new building / area from where they used to be, now situated in downtown. Well in the pillars of the building and in the restaurant itself there were small tiles with different symbols, all typically showing positive meaning and what not. One of the symbols was the swastika. One of my friends spoke up that they thought it was offensive and really was thinking the place was supporters of Hitler. That was embarrassing.

But back to the topic, yes yes.. I am well aware that the people who are 'vandalizing' the lawn of the TC are doing it with the threat of ill intentions, never once denied it. But that doesn't change the fact that those who did it likely are ignorant butts that know nothing about it themself. xP

On this side of the world people hang an effigy of a dead and tortured man everywhere, an even carry it around their necks. That's hardcore but still kinda creepy.

Just like the Roman habit of wearing necklaces of stone-carved dicks.

This will be a fun planet for alien historians.

Not everyone is fond of roleplaying though, and for most people I know raiding or engaging in PvP is an exciting adrenaline rush-filled experience that can very easily result in insults being thrown here and there. Though what baffles me the most is how sensitive people seem to be to things like swearing and offensive behaviour in general. Behaviours like this are specially present in any sports-related event and very many other things aswell, not just online videogames.

That said, I would also like to add that regardless of how they act in an online videogame, most of these "13 year olds" are perfectly normal people IRL with families and all the like. I think it's a bit silly to get the assumption that every raider that acts like that is an immature or badly-mannered asshole of a person. For some people this game is a fun way to release themselves from stress and relax from their real lifes. To expect people on the internet to behave themselves perfectly and act the way you want them to in a videogame is very stupid, people have and will always enjoy games in different ways than you, and this doesn't make them any less of a good person than you either.

People have said the kinds of things you and others in this thread are saying for years all across the internet. It never changes anything. By all means, keep saying it, I'm sure there will never be any negative repercussions that ruin the internet for everyone. I have encountered people on the internet who have made genocidal statements and threatened all kinds of physical violence, yet mere children on a playground can be worse. Because they can hit you. Nobody can abuse your feelings, so stop hitting yourself.

I know people don't like the "grow a thicker skin" advice. I don't fucking care. I don't even need to fearmonger with slippery slope paranoia to try to convince you that coddling people is a problem for everyone. I just need three letters, and you should understand: SJW.

lachlaan wrote:To clarify, I'm opposed to the disturbing level of verbal trolling involved in raiding.

The majority of people see this as childish whining about someone being politically incorrect. Disturbing would be stalking people and harassing them. We're talking about dumbfucks who shout "I fucked ur mom lol" and similar, yes?

I really just wanted to tell you to fuck off. It sucks that people who raid would rather be malicious than just shut up and murder you, but if you can't just ignore the words of someone who wants to ruin your fun, you're letting them win.

I always shake my head at insults, personally, but I can see how there's a line to be crossed and how many people cross it. Mind you in sporting events, presumably most of them, if a player on the field starts shouting stuff like "your mother's a whore, you're gonna burn in furnaces like the jews in auschwitz" or some shit the ref will bench that guy on a technical foul faster than he can say "Oh shit I might get suspended". There is such a thing as good sportsmanship, and there is an appropriate outlet for aggressivity within any sport. As for insulting the people that opt for that behaviour, you're right, I always try to remind myself that it's likely people venting, but still it worries me when that's what they need to do to vent, and when they'll likely make someone ingame need to vent just as badly IRL to compensate for the negative shit they see in here.

Just because you can't be punished ingame for abusive texts, racism and other shit it doesn't matter that you should use that to unload tension, and I won't agree that players who tell me that they fucked my mother, father, brother, sister and dog, which I don't have, just because it's perfect way for them to get rid of some bad feelings (so basically telling shit like that to other people makes them happier) are normal people with happy families.

Is haven and hearth your first experience with the internet or something?

Just cause stuff happens one way elsewhere doesn't mean it needs to be approved of (even if nothing can be done about it) here.

Your argument is pretty moot, at best argue that Jorbtar can do as little about as they can about bots, but I see no way that a certain level of toxicity beyond the reasonable amount of verbal antagonizing is in any way good for the game.

Who was it that said "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to stand by and say <<Is haven and hearth your first experience with the internet or something?>>", either way seems appropriate here.

Lol, OP cant accept failure and move on, rages and quits instead.. Classic.

Your going to have a hard time if this is how you react to getting beat at something.

Instead, take it as a learning experience and try again, because in Haven, every new character you make is 10x better than the last one.

I quite enjoyed watching this thread go from crying about a christmas ram to holocaust conspiracy theories.
