For example VDZ I believe you'd be better off selling items at your market for a currency of your own type and offering that currency at a 2 for 1 exchange rate with the Sevillian Crown or whatever you feel might be suitable. Obviously this could be adjusted later on based on how well your own currency is doing versus the crown.

How would this be any different from using the Sevillian Crown directly? The problem people in this thread fear, namely Dis producing more coins or otherwise distorting the market in their favor, would still apply, as the unreliable Crown could just be traded for my currency. It would just produce more hassle for both me and the people buying/selling stuff there. There's no point in having your own currency if you can just directly exchange between it and another currency.

The difference is you're competing with them, people who have more of your currency I assume would tend to spend more at your market and less at theirs. It's an option that is available was my point it isn't something anyone has to do.

Well in theory it would work like the global exchange irl. In practice it would be a logistical nightmare.

IRL global exchange is a hell already. I've read some articles about how the banking with different currencies really work and this is very complex system

Yes. There are also a lot of tools available to those managing it which we don't have in hafen.

In game it would be a literal nightmare to do properly.

Economics in H&H.

Postby Gloosx_inn » Wed Apr 13, 2016 11:54 pm

Do you guys think it is possible to simulate a real-world economy in H&H. I mean imagine the situation:
A coin press on underground -5 protected by 100 Layers of brick walls without gates with an alt inside, probably an automated bot-alt. Only the barter stand stands on the ground, and this barter stand is meant to send bars to coin press and unified coins outside. The coins are released with aid of some formula over the time. More time in the world passed, less coins produced up to some limit. Can it happen and those coins become the most reliable H&H currency? With all these features like charter stones and with all these possibilities for trading, combined with relatively small map, World 9 can soonely become the Trading World, and so it will need it's own currency.

I think you have a better point if you just say that some 3rd party will do the exchanging. If both currencies are viable enough, this will happen automagically I think. Doing what you suggest basically just makes the other faction able to print my currency. Not good. I have a village mate who plays the currency market in the real live to make some monies. I don't know how it can work, but somehow you can make money doing this as the 3rd party.

Evidently. I think maybe you can have a read through the thread to figure it out.

If you are saying, that people using our currency will at some point find out, that they have no value, I think we have proven last world that we can maintain the currency and it has been benefiting all layers of the society: from the noobs to advanced factions. Right now the market is still being developed, as not everyone have charterstones and opportunity to travel to the market in safety.
If you have problems with coins having higher value than the materials used for them, refer to VDZ's words. Or real-life paper money, idk.
And as for the extremely high prices, we have always been keeping our prices at the same level, if not less that other traders did. To support the market, I have my own topic with the prices and etc. And people were giving me crown coins and I have been giving items back to them. Sometimes they would request something we do not sell. We would still sell the items for higher prices, yes, because we also need the items.
You guys are using some weird arguments.

Not sure if you were responding to my post here, but I have no issues with your prices. I was listing some fake situations, which were absolutely not directed at you or your market.
However, the arguments here are pretty valid I think, not weird.
