They're both RPGs in the broad sense of the word, so I don't think comparisons are that ridiculous. I don't see how different stakes have any bearing on quality of the actual combat mechanics.

I used to play another indie MMO that had about 200 steady online player counts. Then they went to Steam, got like 600-800. One or two months later it was back to 200.

I'll add to this point that there are games with PvE and PvP as strictly separate game modes (e.g. Guild Wars 2), and usually there is a big difference between respective communities within the same game.

Although, to be fair, there are lots of decent people in Guild Wars 2 World vs World mode, but I guess it differs from server to server.

What devs have to lose with pvp and pve server. Its not like they have that much to lose.
Experiment like this would be interesting.

PVE server after 2 moths population 15
PVP server after 2 month population 300

PVE has limited entertainment ... What ever in the world you want to do after you built everything? Is there any incentive to raise any skill above 200?

How can you throw out numbers like this?
Only way to see how it would work is to try it.
You must be really dumb to come up with these numbers from your head.
It would be interesting experiment. No one knows really what would happen before trying it.

If there were elements that the player cannot control the interval of occurrence and it is hazardous to players, then it would be more viable. As it stand out now, the game is less survivor based and more survivor-lite.

I'm on vacation in Venice. This isn't relevant, but I felt it's something people should know.

Also we are approaching the three month population cliff. You of all people should be aware of the Haven Law of Population Decline™

They've added a lot but progression doesn't seem to be slowed by to much. Precious metals are still too abundant. Trolls are fucked up. Combats fucked up. Q50+ resources are still easy to find. Remedial things that keep you busy behind walls, takes up too much time, foraging sucks, and after a few months shit gets monotonous and people quit, and when some people quit that's other people quit.

This world has seen record population upkeep though, so it's on the right track.
