To delve deeper into that number... it hasn't changed in 20+ years even though the non-tip minimum wage has gone up 3 times. If memory serves, it was set in the mid 90s when non-tip minimum wage was $5.15 or $5.25/hour. It's what I was making as a server before my college age children were born. (Then again, I was making between $10-$15/hr in tips most nights, and that was at a cheap casual dining establishment.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I also hate paying more than the stated price for anything, because it feels like being scammed. Not including taxes in prices really grinds my gears too, though this at least can be justified in countries where taxes vary from one place to another.

Yeah, I know, it's part of the perverse logic we have nowadays .... money is our god. But are we happy? are we realized? or first are money and only then our happines, needs and goods? ... needs and goods are not anymore the aim, they are the tool to make money.
I personally don't think we are happy, at least the majority of us westerners.
Just to be clear, Aristotele said that, not me.

And also, to underline what "money is our god" is and what this mean .... in our history, pretty much every culture, religion, etc.. we had in the past, most of all us, as Christians ... we had always a society where forgiveness, pardon was part of us, fraternity, sociality ... helping the others.
Now our god is money, it is merciless , if you have no money, you are not efficient, you are not productive .... you are out of the society with no hope at all to re-enter, you are excluded.
For the tecnique and money it's important only what is efficient, productive ... the human being is not important for them.
At work, for example, we have no more fellow workers, today we have competitors, cause if he is better than me i can lose the job ... and so on.
The money god is merciless, but we are human being first of all ... and pretty much it's why this cannot work for so long.

u should make another thread about this so that we can discuss how dumb ur idea is without being off topic

Do noted that minimum cash wage payment is just payment employer must pay initial. Employee must make at least ''Basic Combined Cash & Tip Minimum Wage Rate'' as list in link when combine this minimum cash wage with tips earned. If it is too low, employer must increase minimum cash wage payment to over minimum wage rate. I think maybe you will be less disgusted to open your mind to learnings instead of sit and stew in your own bias.

Nothing of that is mine, of course.

I will never tip a cashier. To put tip jar here is just panhandling on job.
