Oh no people are gonna sit there and piece together 10 second clips every 150 players and figure out someones location from hours or days ago from the color of the biome! oh wait no theyre not and even if they do who the fuck cares? Funny how haven has a bunch of regular streamers and most of the time nothing happens. I even figured out where 1 of them lived and posted coords but did anything happen? No, no one cared. J Coles got killed because he literally streamed himself sailing on a snekkja near his island in real time. I honestly cant fathom why aleck puts so much effort into arguing over a game he doesnt play. Uh oh, fun new addition detected, better make up absolute nonsense to shit all over it.

Color of the biome...

Also if they're near a mountain.
Or near the shore line.
Or near any semi-rare local resource.

You vastly VASTLY under estimate the ability for people to find you on seemingly minimal data. You also underestimate how easy it would be for bored players to grief the stream by AFKing alts near Swastikas and, knowing Haven, dicks.

And rather or not one thinks its fair, Twitch will punish channels that depict ToS-breaking content even if its not under the direction of the broadcaster.

Like I said Ive tracked peoples locations from streams before. It takes a lot more than short clips every 1k players. and I find out where random unknown player was hours ago, then what? Im more likely to find people just exploring the map normally.

If the stream got TOSd so what? How is that different from not even running the stream in the first place? It's not even the main channel.

I have no doubt the people from the HH discord who spend every moment trying to sabotage this games playerbase and make this game fail will try to pull some mass report TOS crap but if they do, so be it, who cares. Doomsday stream been up fine so far.

Were going in circles, hopefully you guys do some thinking and stop pretending like there is some big issue now.

I agree with both sides of the argument. I think we should do our best to be smart about it and see how it goes. If it becomes a problem then it can be stopped. Seems like an easy win to me, otherwise. I don't see much practical difference between the stream and just wandering around in the world. There have already been plenty of people on stream with terrible security flaws, people with no claim and right next to the river. I know I don't speak for everyone, but when I watch the stream I just enjoy it for what it is and I'm not thinking "hmmm, wonder if I can track down this rando and fuck with them." If people want to put in effort to grief random people, there's literally nothing stopping them RIGHT NOW, with or without the stream. People already do that, it's part of the game - and honestly it's a good thing. I think the fact that you can look at a screenshot and track someone down based on the biomes and landmarks is a testament to the sandbox nature of the game.

The worst-case scenarios seem to be that hatespeech/symbols are going to appear and get the stream banned, and that people who appear on the stream will be targeted. Especially when the player count gets low and the stream will cut to the same few people, making them easier to find. Firstly, I don't think the devs care if their for-fun stream gets banned. Secondly, yes streamers get targeted and found even with their map covered up but thats because there is a face and name attached to what is being shown. When it's a random player with no identification... who tf cares?? Again, not much difference between watching the stream and wandering around the game. The security concerns are the exact same but can actually be mitigated with the stream.

1) Definitely need a delay. Hard to say how long. I wonder what is the longest delay that is possible?
2) Remove chat?
3) SOUND PLS!! I saw some discussion on day 1 of the stream about how getting live sound might be difficult. I think just a loop of something would serve the stream well at the very least. In-game sound would be huge though, as that is also a big part of the game imo. <3

What would likely happen is that it will just go on until it becomes problematic. Nobody can say how long that will be or if it ever ends up being the case. Seems like it's an effort vs risk scenario. From what Loftar said, setting up a permanent 24/7 stream would require some extra work on his part. I wonder if it could be rigged up to run on a raspberry pi or even a phone, lol. But he has to ask himself how long would it need to go on for in order to make the effort worthwhile. The fact that Loftar seems open to the idea makes me excited. Vote with your wallets people!!

I think everyone mostly agrees that, for what it is, the stream is definitely a fun and cool addition to the game and should make a return appearance.

My whole view is that I think the stream helps build community, showcase the game, and can be a learning tool. It looks like W14 might lean in favor of village security, if that ends up being true in practice, I think that it works to alleviate some of the opsec concerns.

Also, putting a livestream on the front page sounds like a great idea. Might be cool to showcase the past teaser trailer previews of the worlds that get made too.

And yeah, being able to opt-in is probably a bad idea. Maybe in the future it could be something to consider. I could see an opt-in working if it was something that needed approval from the community or devs. There are a lot of amazing villages, public markets, and earthworks that deserve to get showcased. Could be an extra incentive for people to make such things.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people against this idea is because they just don't want people to see how they play, or perhaps don't want others to see all the bots in their base? I just think it's kinda funny to doomsay and suggest that this feature would cause a rapid decline in the game, as if it's something that can't literally be switched off. No patch needed to fix any problems caused.

PS- meteor cam at least??! 8-)
