Does Oxygen not included have persistent toons that improves over time?

who does not risk and change the color of his clothes,
who does not speak and does not experience, dies slowly.

If I understood correctly it does.
It looks like a nice concept. And at least Don't Starve by klei was not that bad. Quite good actually.
Its in alpha currently, so I would not buy it before they add more content. Just in case...

It has enough content for me to be unable to keep my dupes alive... I still haven't expanded the screen by much. Still, it will be better with more content.

Looks like development is going about same pace as Don't Starve, too. Content is coming out about ever 2-4 weeks (small things added here and there, larger changes about once a month).

As far as the amount, well, it's enough it's kept me occupied for around 70 hours already. I'd probably have let the game go for a couple months if the most recent update didn't completely changed up how many things are done. (Two bases lost to bugs, though...)

Yes, the characters are persistent and keep developing skills with no apparent cap to how high they can go. There's a good variety of perks and penalties that can help or hinder.

Rimworld has been one of my favorite early access game that I've played, and though I have not played Don't Starve, I heard of good things about it, so a combination of the two , if done right, should prove to be a fun game. :)

The fact that the game in its alpha state was able to offer 70+ hours of entertainment should be a testimony of some potential. However I am a bit torn between waiting for the content to polish up and form and to play due to the seemingly high quality despite its alpha state. :(

Yeah, early access is definitely a mixed bag, and when you consider ONI is actually still in alpha level development, it really screws with things. Upside: you see a lot of new content on a regular basis which gives the game itself some longevity in this stage for players. Downside: bugs, bugs, bugs. Frustrating to no ends if you're not the kind that likes bug hunting (and exploiting). When the game gets more into a beta state and it is more about balance, the game may well be completely boring by that point without some other mechanics that might make long term gameplay exciting.

(Just as a note, I've put about 400 hours into Don't Starve and DS Together.)

I remember I kept playing Don't Starve as it was developed. But once it was ready I was too bored with the game already so I never finished it. I'll wait for ONI to be finished first and then I'll buy it.

Also, keeping my eye out for Northgard.

And a sad panda because Clockwork Empires was abandoned :(

Clockwork Empire has always been pretty bad to me....one good almost abandoned was Timber and Stone, pretty fun, I enjoyed it a lot before Rimworld comes out.
P.S.
If you like Rogue likes and never played Don't Starve you should really give it a try, one of the best games recently...
One new, kind of management/colony pretty good is Block'hood, pretty clever game also.
