1 Wool at a spinning wheel. Find a clover and feed it to a wild mouflon and then shear it.

I'm currently healing like 50 wounds via gauze. It's tough to get until it's not. Simply put, clovers are rare at first but rapidly become commonplace as you continue to bump up your exploration and perception. Mouflon are also hard to find unless you establish a grassland/heath/moor as a regular stomping ground when you go out exploring. Eventually we'll all know how to tame and then once you have sheep you'll have gauze for days. Same thing with string -- it's a pain to get until it's not, once you get and grow hemp.
