Fuck the haters, permanent loss and the ability to literally do ANYTHING is what sets this game apart and makes it unique.

Take your pussy ass back to WoW or some other game where all progression is meaningless.

If you aren,'t levelling a backup alt on your main account you're a fucking moron.

Permadeath is a very neat mechanic in theory, which in practice gets completely screwed by alts.

You make a choice in this game. You're either going to be the type of player who sits behind a wall studying bugs and flowers and making nice things, or you're going to be the type who kills the former type because FUCK FLOWERS, YOU PANSY.

People who work for their living legally are rewarded.

People who rob banks are rewarded a lot quicker, but with a risk of losing everything.

Except in this scenario it's like the bank robber's kids get the nice things their bank-robbing forefather's money bought.

And the bank robbers don't actually risk anything if they only target people who are significantly weaker than them or if they use an alt to commit their murders.

That sounds like it could help.

Needing to do this strongly hints that there is a flaw in the system.

Permadeath is the "flaw" there. You can't have permadeath without significantly empowering the use of alts.

Permadeath has uncapped loss. You want to fight a bear, you risk everything your character has every accumulated. In most games with asset lost in pvp, you lose your gear. This to a degree lets you choose how much to risk. Cutting wood in a pvp zone? Carry just your hatchet, that's what you'll lose. Hunting boss mob, bring your shiny stuff, that's what you'll lose. In *any* permadeath game: Cutting wood? Lose your entire character. PvPing? Completely same risk level.

You can never take away that benefit without shallowing out the entire character progression of haven. And no one wants that, it's a huge bonus to the game experience as a whole. As such, alts will always exist. You can make it so alts at least require active non-botted playtime to progress, but it's still beneficial to have your farmer and your warrior stats on two seperate characters.

Alts are the real flaw. As I said before, not only they are allowing one to effectively avoid permadeath, but more importantly they are severely reducing need to cooperate with other players (outside of battlefield), which kinda goes against the whole idea of MMORPG. When any player can become master of all trades through alts it is very harmful to player interactions and game economy.

How do you guide it to your base if you can only login with one character at a time? I don't want to have to pay to verify two accounts if I don't have to...

The original Haven and Hearth was focused around permadeath. Before curios it existed in a form that was much more hardcore than today. Even today, it is still considered a core gameplay mechanic and if you want to complain about it people are going to laugh at you and call you a cuckold.

As I grow older I think more and more that permadeath is a bad thing. Obviously this opinion is influenced by my lack of time to play but still... I always liked the adrenaline rush when I fought people and risked my chars life (I always fight with my main as a real man should) but I think the game would grow considerably more if death wasn't so punishing.
