I'm really curious why you even needed a palisade, since you trust random strangers enough to leave your master key lying around. Maybe you didn't mean to, and you stashed it in a container by mistake?

Then comes in griefers getting vandalism and doing it anyways.

You have not finish this story:

This is now completion.

Unfortunate, "Happily ever after" is a fable in this game.

It can be a fable in the game, but this is only one of the coin sides. The other bears the image of a man, the players of the game. What the game will not give we can make or we can take. This can be the happy ending performed from our own powers. There can be no victory with no struggle. There will be no pleasure except though pain. Do not remove the hope from your heart in this moment!

Today I finished it's construction and I went to get out, but my key wasn't there anymore. All three gates are locked and I can't break them. I'm stuck inside like an idiot, without a mean of getting resources.

Well, presuming you're still around (which I doubt, seeing's you haven't replied lately), might I suggest at least keeping your master key in your personal inventory at all times? That's what I do.

Let this be a lesson: nothing is safe in this world. The best protection you can get is to either place it on yourself, or on an alt if you're ambitious.

Don't worry, though. It's only a game. You can start again. Everyone does. Isn't that right, battle-scarred, alt-using veterans?

Put it on an alt that does nothing but hold master keys.

You may begin this with suggestion of a better system.

a couple years ago i made an effortpost about this, i guess it's lost now but the meat of it was, keys should be "abstracted" and the claim owner or lawspeaker should be able to set permissions of who can open any gates on their claim.

This can be a system with identical function of the current, but without the fear of thievery from the physical key mismanagement. It is basically just about if the development team is thinking that these keys can be without drawback risks. Clearly I think that no players can be objecting unless they like to steal the keys.

But given this has not been something happening, I think maybe the devs are liking the keys with the drawback.

We considered permissions but arrived at the conclusion that it was too ugly in terms of management, conflicts with overlapping claims, and whatnot. Who can set permissions on a gate, for example? Using what list of persons? &c&c.

Permissions imply a lot more ugliness than people imagine.
