Not sure if this matters but at one point, Koya tried to propose a system where coins were the de facto currency. Unfortunate the idea was met with very few agreement as many argue that it is added an unnecessary step to the bartering system.

Doing what you suggest basically just makes the other faction able to print my currency. Not good. I have a village mate who plays the currency market in the real live to make some monies. I don't know how it can work, but somehow you can make money doing this as the 3rd party.

But if your exchange works and you end up with a bunch of crowns you can then go and spend those crowns at the Sevillian Market and resell their goods on your own stalls, essentially devaluing their currency if you slowly adjust your exchange and prices over time.

But they are just cycled, i mean the are not produced with aid of the formula. Look at bitcoins and other crypto-currency. We need something like that.

Do you know that people who knew about bitcoins before it become massive made millions from nothing? Because in that times mining was easy and coins worth nothing. So you guys think that Dis make super-profit from Crowns, but as an example of good system you give the system where people made much more profit in the same case.

ITT: Everyone speculates theoretical circumstances where a fiat currency would be viable instead of skipping the logistical hell by using gold.

It's just an inevitable evolution of any financial system consisting of multiple currencies. Speculation seems necessary, though it doesn't discount the value and safety of a gold based currency for the people using it. There is still considerable risk in using a gold currency for those creating the currency however when such complexities are taken into account. Because if the perceived value of that currency drops below that of gold, as has happened many times in our history, the gold itself will be extracted and the currency forfeit.

In legacy we had Pearls. They had much value and usually they cost 50 pts per pearl within any currency

And that system sucked donkey balls, because you could only perform high-value trades with them. Also, the lack of barter stands meant everything had to be done manually, and the lack of public trading places with visitor debuff meant that we had to use clunky alt teleporting shenanigans to perform any kind of trade.

I always felt it was absolutely horrible and only traded for the things I really needed and couldn't get myself.
