Homosexual is the blanket term for it, but I am talking about the specific words used based on a specific sex and their attraction to another specific sex

In that case, yes. But in my experience people get all weird when I call myself a lesbian so I typically refrain from it.

They don't understand the word? Or do they respond differently to the word lesbian vs the word gay

In my experience more people take issue with people who claim to be bisexual because they either don't believe them, call it a phase, or assume it's just them looking for special attention because to be young and bisexual could be seen as 'trendy'

I don't think it'd be a shock to anyone if I were to say that young men on the internet, and occasionally in person, treat homosexual women differently because they outed themselves as one.

I know that all too well, some family members hold that view.

Everything is a social construct and teaching kids that it's okay to be homosexual is nothing more than recruitment.
