I only found the first one interesting. The others start sounding less like sci-fi and more like bad criticism of middle-eastern religions.

See, I got something completely different out of that. They're about tyranny, and how sometimes long term plans can only be achieved through such tyranny. Take, for example from modern times, Steve Jobs. Through such tyranny he has achieved what appears to be a superior product and a rabid base of fanatics will to kill to get the latest manna from heaven. Such a legacy will come to an end only because he died. He is no longer with us to reinforce the fanaticism.

Now, take such a thing to sci-fi and ask "what if a tyranny existed for thousands of years?" Now you have the series in a nutshell. (FYI, if you hadn't read all the books, including the dozen or so written by Brian Herbert and Michael Stackpole, you haven't read them all. They really are Frank Herbert's work, and they were being written when he died in the mid 80s.)

A completely random mention of a book because of a meme, but what does that have to do with this thread? Everything, whether jalpha intended it or not. One of the central themes in the series was grand scheming and plotting to change the powers in control. Simply by exposing this truth, though, I am deflecting the argument... or am I?

Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
