I always hear people saying things like "if you're on welfare you shouldn't be buying beer" but who are we to say someone shouldn't be allowed to enjoy themselves sometimes because they receive government funding? Because they are poor? Yes there are people who blatantly abuse these programs but I don't think it's individuals and families that are occasionally going out for dinner together with some of their welfare cheque.
I wouldn't say that they can't have fun, they have the right to recreation as much as any of us, welfare or not.
But there ARE people out there who explicitly leech off of these systems simply because they're too lazy to work, there's nothing wrong with getting help when you need it.
It's a matter on if you deserve it or not. Being unemployed and searching or Employed and unable to live comfortable verses Unemployed and not searching for a job are very different.
Contribute to society, and you should be able to get the help you need to live a happy life. but if your preferred hobby is a bit more lavish and extravagant, maybe you should focus on getting a job or an income that could support such hobbies, rather than being a giant mooch and leaning so hard on your welfare check that it makes you look pathetic.
(This statement does not take into account the disabled or the elderly, as these two groups usually are physically unable to take care of themselves, and do require vasts amount of help if they wished to live a semi-normal life)
