^^That might not be related. Survivalcraft is literally all those things and it has around 60k reviews on google play, who knows what the actual number of purchases is.

I still believe people are desperate for survival games and even crappy ones sell well because the market is empty. Even a tiny unfinished rpg-maker game like Unveil already got 2000 sales. No wonder even Nintendo is publishing a survival/crafting new Zelda soon. If haven isn't popular it might be because it's not advertised and because it doesn't feel like it belongs to that genre, due to excessive alts, micromanaging etc.

Survival games come out basically daily on steam, and every popular youtuber covers every single one to the avail to thousands of 10-17 y/o kids looking to buy. I know for a fact that shit like ARK and Rust are popular as hell because of this, same as DayZ was before them.

Could HnH be youtube gold like these, but has not been discovered yet?

If this game was made for the market it would not be so cool...people like to play craps like No man's Sky, where you have to spam one button for the entire game.
Make friends with the other crabs or try to escape the bucket.

When the HnH video from ProJared has a few hundred thousand views... I'd say it's reached as much of a market as it can. Who cares if it's popular? I'm here because it is what it is.

My problem is the world resets and I keep doing the same thing over and over and over and get bored with the tedium of animals, steel, etc. You don't need a village to be exceptional at this game. It just means it takes fewer hours if more than one person is doing it. (not to mention safety in numbers)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

By far the number one complaint I hear is a lack of pathfinding.

It's not much more complicated than other survival games, but it's a lot more punishing which turns people away.

Some points I agree with. Hafen is difficult to make videos of because the pacing of the gameplay is so slow. There's also a much higher proportion of farming and grinding related activities compared to combat. It's not entertaining to watch someone harvesting beets for hours and putting them in troughs. It makes it difficult to just stream gameplay. A lot of effort needs to be put into editing for youtube clips and I think with such a small number of potential viewers people who do this kind of thing for a living see it as a low payout for the time investment required.

That being said it's still possible.

I also agree with peoples concerns about the difficulty of in-game movement, however I'd prefer a map seeded with a lower number of higher yielding trees or just a smoother movement system than full blown pathfinding. The movement is rather jerky and difficult compared to what you will get in games like DotA, which really, is the kind of combat and movement paradigm Hafen is competing with given it's a mostly top-town semi-third person game.

BECAUSE HAFEN IS ONLY FOR THOSE WHO ENDURE THE PAIN!

Seriously those kids suck, I mean, hafen is a game about challenges.
You know the world today they invent alternatives which make people lazier.
A game that is pretty easy doesnt make you stronger.
That's why this game aint pop.
