How is that paying to have an advantage? It's really just pay to play. If they allowed enough time for a free player to do all the things a paying player could do nobody would actually pay. Whether or not you like the fact they decided to monetize the game is another thing entirely.

You're missing the point. I'm not trying to shit on the devs' decisions, I used the update as the precise time when I actually stopped logging on.
And it's not pay to play if you can already play without paying - however, paying gives you more play time which is undeniably an advantage. Now please, let's stop derailing the thread.

You can't tell me what to do I'll derail all the threads!!!!!!

I would say your free time is more like a trial, if you like the game you can opt to subscribe or can verify your account and get 14 hours a week. Even if you just paid for one month to get some shit setup and never paid again you could manage that time effectively considering 80% of your in-game time is really just standing around waiting for something to finish.

You could say the same for any pay-to-win game. "oh it's just pay to play, by not paying you're playing "trial mode" (read: playing with severe disadvantages)"

No that isn't true, many games offer premium benefits that go beyond just time. Extra XP gain, rewards and benefits, access to items and areas a non-paying player does not get access to. Most free games with options to pay do not limit your time however, thus why I use the term trial.

It was many moons ago!

I think i was looking for survival games, or something to do with world of warcraft hearth stone...

either way, its a nice little game that can fill the gaps between other games.

After finishing SAO (oh I can feel the hate raging upon me) I was talking to a friend of mine, why permadeath would be a great mechanic for a game and was later browsing the web for one where you actually lose your character instead of just get it reset (like DayZ) and stumbled upon this pearl. However, I also take a secound opinion on the matter of "is it any good" so I gone to youtube ending up with ProJareds "review" of it and played it ever since.
I'm currently unable to countinue, but was able to convince a friend of mine to give it a shot in the free game-time during last holidays and he is now a subscriber.
I was playing the old haven too and miss it ever since it's practically gone.

I always wondered if a sandbox game with only one life, and I mean it literally...only one character with one life for one player each, would negate the "griefer problem". I have no illusions that there would be no griefer at all, so I would let the player handle it by them selves by giving them the possibility to bring every greafer to just (which is probably illusionistic in itself since it needs more "friendly" players than griefers).

My brother the /b/tard introduced me to the game. He gave me a HSecret he collected from /b/ and I started to play in W4 or 5? Had my in and outs with the game along every world since then. Years later my brother mocks me from still playing this ugly unfinished game.

... Currently awaiting the next world ...

My stoner buddy told me about it. We started playing in W4, or was it W3? The one where you had to chop down acres of wood to make buckets for some lp. We never progressed far, but we were there at the start of each world up to W7. This one i had to start alone, but after first death was lucky enough to be invited in a very freindly little community.

The problem with this is that you can never detect 100% whether a player is the same as another player. Yes, there are IP bans and the like, but I could just register a new account from an entirely different location, on an entirely different computer, and you would have no way to tell it was me. If necessary, I could repeat this process endlessly with reinstalls/virtual machines (depending on method of detection) and proxies.

You could force the player to re-buy the game every they die and stuff like that, but that's some seriously questionable business practices.
