To share some ideas, maybe? different ideas, ideas from great men of our history which, unlike the shits we listen in TV everyday, wanted to help us.
And do you know what's the most fun part about all of this?
It's that who have the power in our society right now, these people, they read, they learned and they know very well those "ideas".

I think everybody should stop tipping so then employees either die of starvation because they can not afford buy food or rise on barricades and demand reasonable wages.

Is it consider rude to tip in your lands? What about to tip in good?

Tipping is not a thing, nothing is thought of it. You should not tip.

I don't see whats wrong with free healthcare, education and pensions for everyone. A country should take care of it's citizens.

Capitalist pig wrote:If it is a more difficult job to care for children than to look after money, this market will correct

As long as there are people who do the job for low wage, it will not correct.

ricky wrote:US here. we tip 20% around these parts out of respect and such.

Its not for respect. If you would respect your waiters and whatnot. You should demand that they get paid accordingly.
If they do their job really badly, then complain to their manager and maybe they will get better or then get fired. If they keep being bad waiters regardless of your complaints then don't ever visit that restaurant again.
Then they will either get better waiters or go bankrupt.

Capitalisam in a terminal state. Disgusting.

ye capitalism is shit now a days. people are greedy and the rich keep getting richer while the poor gets poorer, usa doesnt even have a middle class anymore bc of the damn trickle down effect. its complete bs over here

Capitalism is a good system as long as stupid people like those who are not opposing tipping exist.

I heard that in some countries VAT is not included in prices that you see at store. I think it is scamming. Price label of product should tell you exactly how much it costs.

Shubla has the right of it on this. We have unions for a reason. People got paid shit wages for 80 hours of work a week and were lucky if they could effectively feed and house their family. We (the US) have agencies like the EPA and OSHA because those with money want to distribute as little as possible by cutting corners that results in screwing over their employees and the general public. Most other industrialized nations have similar agencies, but not all of them let the 1% of the 1% run the show to the level the US does.

This is obviously a bait thread, but whatever.

I believe that tipping should be reserved for exceptional service. If you feel your waiter, bellhop, attendee, etc, deserves a bonus for their service, tipping is justly deserved. But, I think it's rather scummy how the current restaurant industry uses it as an excuse to pay their employees subpar wages. It's just a scapegoat for corporations to skimp out on paying their employees a reasonable wage and shifting the burden onto the consumer.

Who'd of thunk? Scummy business practices from corporate America? It's almost like corporations tend to turn into inhuman profit machines instead of actual empathetic entities that the rabid capitalists make them out to be.

Don't get me wrong, I think a man is entitled to the sweat on his brow, but letting fat cats sit around and drain the life force out of the rest of the population is sickening.

Feel free to imagine me screaming in frustration at our broken and ridiculous system. There's no hope, only despair.

About tipping, we Europeans don't really have this "tradition", I think tipping is a cultural thing, neither good nor bad in itself.
Not sure, but probably Americans don't have many cultural traditions like us Europeans ... so they hold on to what they have, because it's what they know.

IMHO this stems from the focus of corporations having changed from the initial idea of getting a specific thing done (which was reasonable) toward the stance of let's make money, as fast and as much as possible (which, when looking at the side effects this has, dosn't seem to be worth it).

No tipping in general in Denmark. Everybody is paid full wages or something is seriously wrong with their employment. People are not dependant on tips here.

However sometimes we tip waiters at restaurants and cab drivers for extra ordinary service. % is probably not as used but i'd say less than 10%.
