Honestly, the game feels complete, filled with content, in a vibrant world. HnH is actually an amazing game.

The problem is that the gameplay loop kinda just breaks down after a while into repetition. The first 8 weeks feel pretty stellar though.

I don't know why people expect Jorb and Loftar to keep pumping out incremental content. I really think they have done so much over the years - They should tinker with some massive gameplay loop conceptual changes to see if they can make the game have staying power to grow population over time.

The more it pisses off the neets and autists the better.

Well, that would not have been an issue if we would have a new world with some small but meaningfull changes every 4-6 months. But with the current concept you either drop the game or pray for some content to do something in those 6 more months you are waiting for the next world

Right, which is why I'm suggesting that maybe adding incremental content patches may not be a tenable strategy to improve the game that already has so much content.

Instead, perhaps, they should look to bigger conceptual changes that radically alter the gameplay loop.

I'm pretty sure that has been suggested multiple times already both in public and private. However, it seems like the devs would prefer to have a longer game session length due to some reason

It's possible to have both if they incorporate proven ideas from other games, like Path of Exile with one permanent progression shard and another that runs on shorter "leagues" where progress from the shorter server is rolled over onto the permanent shard with each wipe.

This allows people to undertake long term projects and keep what they've worked for, but also get a fresh experience more frequently.

Guess what, that has been suggested as well long time ago :) I think devs know every possible way of turning the game into middle-length session-based game

Well, I suppose that is their right. Jorb and Loftar are both very intelligent people, and they decided to take the risk and the massive undertaking to design a game by themselves. A self published MMO by a studio of two is no small feat.

If they've seriously considered the possibilities, and rejected them, I can't fault them. It's not like I've not had my fair share of fun.

Frankly HnH can be so startlingly fun that playing it has engrossed me so much at times it was an active detriment to other parts of my life. So, clearly, they've got at least a lot of things right.

Sometimes I feel sad that more people haven't had the opportunity to appreciate the game, and it's likely never been such a success to give true financial security to Jorb and Loftar. It's so unheard of, even by long time gaming friends.

I speculate that HnH isn't too far removed from the type of game that could explode on Steam and earn Jorb and Loftar a few million dollars, but I'm not sure we'll ever find out.
