In my eyes you both have a portion of truth.
Certainly Haven is not meant to be a competitive game, on the other hand it is also true that both the tradition it draws from, that of the rpg, and the very logic of computing, of how it is applied to games and not least how our culture and we ourselves interpret it (bigger numbers equals good), tend to make a sense of competition appear in our eyes, especially as we interpret it that way, as already mentioned, after all we in the west know nothing but the game of war.
Make friends with the other crabs or try to escape the bucket.
