I talked to many people who felt the same way.
Many of them also cited what they felt to be the abandonment of the game by the devs, and/or the failure to fulfill their goal to enact 6 month worlds.

Others cited that they felt the devs didn't play the game anymore and were killing it by implementing changes that directly benefit factions and gankers at the expense of the rest of the community.

Agreed. Was iffy on playing W16.1 due to the unknown and sparse features. Was slightly hyped for that throwaway line of asking for experimental requests but came back to reality after seeing no dev response.

World announcement notes were meh, nothing exciting added.

Checked back over the first few days and realized time was sped up. Coulda been a fun start but I ain't grinding out double-pace for a world that might die sooner.

I think its alright with lower player count it makes it more breathable and you don't have to worry about getting jumped as much anymore. Only real reason I think player numbers are so low is because the post on steam said they would release 16.1 at a certain month, I forgot which one it was but they were like 6-8 months past the deadline which I thought the new world was gonna come. I think most people lost interest because if you say your gonna release it then lag with radio silence, most people will assume dead game. Not a bad world so far though def more chilled out.

Who would predict radio silence is bad
In the beginning was the Radio Silence, and the Radio Silence was with Jorbtar, and the Radio Silence was Jorbtar.
The same was in the beginning with Jorbtar.
All updates were made by them; and without them was not any update made that was made.
In them was development; and that development was the light of hearthlings.

Launch timing may also be an issue. This is the first time ever that a world started in December, which is both a busy month by itself as well as being a time of major game releases. Up until the launch I was playing the recently released Kirby Air Riders, others are likely similarly invested in holiday releases and not everyone would prioritize Haven over whatever new game just got released.

the "making the new player's experience a complete dog shit" strategy is paying off.

had this world released in july/august, I'd have played it exclusively for months.
My birthday and Christmas are fairly close together and I'm a boring man with few desires, so generally I end up with enough steambux to buy a half dozen games. That's in a couple weeks. I'm not going to be interested in maintaining my farm and various processing ventures if I can spend that time enjoying multiple games instead. this player count of 500 is going to dip into double digits real fast, I fear. Sucks because I have had a great time in 16.1 when it comes to socialization. Thanks, fox hat guy! You are a goddamn treasure. Your runestone is the first in my room of correspondence history i always keep.

Are we going to go 4 weeks before we are back down to 200-300, and the game is dead for another year?

We need some drastic change. This will not sustain the games longterm lifespan.
