Daybreak Games, formerly Sony Online Entertainment, formerly Vrrant Interactive, have been going downhill since 2002 or so when they banned an entire guild for breaking a part of the game the players shouldn't have even been able to break. (Poor foresight and an average mistake led to a lot of corporate grief for Verant, 989, and Sony.) Since then, they've just been on a long slide into oblivion.

The Everquest franchise, for the most part, has been a great thing from a story perspective. Company management of said franchise, and game mechanic desicions, has been less than ideal. More than a few other games they've done they just haven't done enough to keep players excited about the game, or the game fresh enough to bring people back in.
I keep trying to go back to EQ, EQ2, and Planetfall 2, but they just don't have the money, foresight, or something to make them great again. At least Blizzard keeps people coming back for more every couple of years.
I somewhat feel sorry for all of you that have gotten attached to H1Z1, but this is just the destiny of a company that can't seem to learn from its own mistakes.
