A Tale in the Desert is one of those sandbox legends I feel like I missed out on by finding out about it too late. Star Wars Galaxies is definitely up there as well.

http://www.atitd.com/ Still runs, still new people joining... I'd probably play it still if it weren't for the monthly sub. It's more than I can afford, but it's a fun game with a great community. It's puzzles to the horizon with politics, art, and architecture to the heart's conent.

SWG has officially been shut down for years, but there are some emulators out there running pre-NGE servers. I've played around with them some (as I only played post NGE when it went f2p... sucked then). I can definitely see the difference. Worth checking out if you have the original SWG installation media.

Anyone playing this beautiful gem? I found it and is a sure buy for me, too bad so far is only good as a max 8 people co op sandbox crafting game, not so much as a MMO PvP, but it has immense potential.

I've been playing Factorio, a great game if you like to engineer monstrous factories. The multiplayer side is also very nice. Oh and great modding support.

This screenshot is a bit old, but it haven't changed too much visually since then. The terrain is a bit nicer now in fact, in the 0.16.x branch. 0.15 brought better and HD textures, nukes, nuclear power plant, depleted uranium ammo, etc... Lotsa stuff.

I've taken to calling it "futuristic train simulator."
