They were locked in pens but we had normal combat, no sign posts abusing - they could attack me without problems

Do you mind sharing your UA, Agi, Str and Con? PM me if you'd prefer to keep it more secret. I need to get this down pat.

30 UA, 30 agi, 40 str. Aurochs seem to have a bit more UA than me, but still can be defeated with only minor hp loss. Mouflons are easier

It's in animal husbandry skill description.
You find wild tamable animal, you feed it with clover and then use a rope on it. Then you use the rop on hitching post to tie the animal to it.
Now you wait several hours for animal to be ready for combat (you will see it by their pose). You initiate combat and keep beating it with punches until it yields. When you yield taming progress should increase. Tie the animal back hitching post and wait again. Rince and repeat several times until taming progress reaches 100

Several times? I cant even get it one time because its bugged.. did you fight the beast in an open area without it being boxed in by signs?

How is it bugged, can you explain this?
Also - how much Per*expl do you need to find a clover?

Running theory of mine is that when the animals yields to you, it "uses" a yield move on you. If you've penned it, often hitboxes prevent the animal from hitting you at all. If this happens, the yield move doesn't connect and the process bugs out.

I fought a sheep out in the open with no boxing, and got the first tame fight finished successfully.

I can pretty much confirm this. When i fought sheep and boar over old logs and other stuff inbetween to make it safer, they bugged out each time. With nothing in the way the taming fight didn't bug out and i didn't have to mercy kill the sheep/boar.

I fight all my animals head on. There are no obstacles between us

i did a big mistake and started to fight wild sheep with a char and he didn't get a animal skill ,before i started i did everything like people said here but with other char ,and after fight i killed sheep because she didn't drop combat.still was attacking me ,and now i'm thinking if it was a bug ,or not
i thought i can beat it with my char without animal skill and after other char can leash it again ..but wtf....

OK so i just successfully did the first fight - got yellow 35s on two aurochs!
However against a mouflon it just never yielded... poor guy! wonder if thats just random? if so its kindof irritating, because you have to repeat each animal several times... so the chance of succeeding could be pretty low :(
