If this is the bug you're referring to, then there is no bug. You closed your client while taking starving damage, because of this damage your character didn't get logged out, and you starved to death. You shouldn't be able to logout and prevent starving from happening, that'd be stupid.

May I refer you to the patch of 24 Sept, 2015:

Thanks for the link. Interesting topic. I don't think you should be able to log out and delay life threatening events; it seems pretty silly to be able to do so. Next they'll fix the bug where you can't log out during combat.

Combat isn't overexertion, though, unless you're overexerting to avoid combat, and in that case, you're probably screwed ten ways to Sunday.

the first tick of starvation damage is not a life threatening event unless the game doesn't actually let you log out

Your axis of comparison is wrong here. It is not the life threatening part that makes combat and starvation the same, it is the immediacy that makes them different.

Combat has to be carried out till the end. Starvation will continue after you log back in again anyway. Combat is also something that directly involves the fate of other players while starvation does not.

The game should have as little events that keep you logged in as possible, otherwise it becomes pretty much unplayable for people that cannot reliably spend their entire night and day at the computer. When I get an important phone call I want to be able to close a damn computer game without having to worry about it...

Using that logic then our characters should always stay online and consume energy while idle, game isn't real life doe

Not logging out during combat isn't a bug, the reason for that should be pretty obvious to anyone with more than a couple of brain cells

As far as not logging out to delay life threatening events and I will explain to you why this is flawed logic, around any corner could be a life threatening situation in haven you could log out just in the nick of time to avoid you're demise, does that mean that you're characters should never be allowed to leave the game world?
