I won't be wrong if I'll say that token trades are as much as important as the income from selling subscriptions for the devs. On the other hand, the quality progression and quality nodes are screwed up, so people will have the same quality stuff very soon and have no need in trading subs. Also, factions are getting inactive in terms of buying the subs as well, since their members are waiting for the new world already.
So, eventually, devs will have to wipe at least for the economical reasons. But there is a lot of work to do as well. Stat caps, slower stat progression, incredibly slow animal and crop quality progression, trees being hard capped by the mats, resource nodes being too widespread and having the same quality, trio-quality fail, no super-quality spiraling except for metal and etc. hurt the whole quality concept of the game + the trades as well. Cannot see the new world without overthinking the issues above.
Animal quality and tree quality are probably the two slowest things in the game atm. My biggest beef with trees is how they're capped so hard by every part of the input, the clay, the fuel, the water, the table quality (which is also saw, wood and plant fibre all in one) and the soil. Until you've located all of these, they're almost not worth planting. And then, they have crazy quality jumps all over the place. Then it finally boils down to praying that your best quality tree doesn't stunt at 95% depriving you of the two prized seeds.
At the same time, it is pretty satisfying taking q10 seeds and pumping them up with your dank tree setup.
