One thing the don't teach in college is how to manage time... well, there are courses, but it's not mandatory. And I can't tell who did and didn't take them when I'm working in an office. From my experience, it's something you learn from home, not school.

From my experience between me and my brother.
My brother did go a full civil engineer education + Learned Russian as well.
He studied for maybe 6 years in total, now he has few years left to pay off his student loans, he is maybe earning 20% more than me right now, but he is getting raises quite often.

I just took the drivings licence for truck driving in 2-3 months, government payed for it, getting work was a bit hard, but once i moved to Norway I never had problems finding work, now i am employed and i have saved enough money to buy a house by myself, now while I live in this house i will rent out a few rooms, witch will make me earn a tiny bit more than my brother.

My brother wasted a lot of time studying, while i was building up my capital.
Both me and my brother will always have work.
My brother will earn more than me from work, but sins i have a little head start with money i can make up for it by investing it, I plan to buy more houses and rent them out.

I would say education is not overrated, as long you choose the right path, find something that works for you and you should be happy.
My brother was an ace when it came to studying, while i was a horrible at it, we both made our decision based on our own traits.

It is all about knowing if you can manage studying and if what you are studying will actually lead to a secure workplace.
Same if you do not study, what will you do? What worth do you have? I had only my drivings licence in Sweden that was not enough, but in Norway it was.
So it all goes to what are you good at? Do you have connections? How far outside your box will you reach to get a job?

An advanced education is not overrated but it is not for everyone.
