Many of us actually used to make lots of suggestion threads in the past, we used to tell them exactly what issues there are with any mechanics (I'm a PVE player, I'm not talking about PVP). In the end we all noticed nothing gets fixed and we just gave up.

If "the community holds the developers hostage", why did the prelude thread for world 16.1 start with jorb saying "give us feedback", and continued with him not opening the forums for the following month, while that thread gathered 130+ pages of suggestions and discussions?
lol

There's years of examples to illustrate how this community holds the devs hostage:

Remember when they tried to monetize the game via subscription based play time? Community outrage - dev roll back on the decision.

Unpopular PvP development decisions. Resulting in protest and reversal.

Unpopular PvE development decisions. Resulting in protest and reversal.

For YEARS.

Also your point isn't wrong, and very valid. They have distanced themselves from this game, but why? What is the ROOT cause?

It's a constant tip-toe between the two communities, and instead of separating them they continually walk on egg shells scared of fracturing the micro-economics of the community they have left.

They're also human and thus retarded, so take that for what you will.

ok am I crazy or was that a good thing tho :?
like, I remember reading the announcement of pay to play and just deciding that I would not be able to play anymore, not opening forums for years after.
Imagine my surprise when at some point I went back and saw that I can still play for any amount of time I want, for free. Upon further investigation I've realized that this was thanks to the community, and to this very day I consider it the best thing it has done.
EDIT: I agree with the rest of your post btw, just don't think this particular example works

How many of the people that rallied against that change play today, even for free? How often did you actually play after the decision? How many subscription tokens did you purchase - how many cosmetics after the fact? See where I'm going with this?

From a business perspective they had the correct idea, but they just attempted to execute it poorly.

They're experimenting with multiple servers, and now more than ever their idea to monetize the game would be beneficial. Split the server into three segements, REGULAR GAME AS IS WITH PVP; PvE PERSISTENT SERVER - that you pay to play, AND A SIX MONTH SPED UP SERVER. Who loses from this? Genuinely.

No idea, not sure how I would go about figuring that out.
I've quit the game and have not played till W12.
Zero tokens and zero cosmetics, just verification for this account, both prior and after the fact.
Kinda, I guess? :?

I'm cool with them making separate servers with different monetization models, as long as there is one where I can play the "old-fashioned" way

I believe most people at this point would be okay with them charging for access to a PvE world. There's just a few vocal outliers that vehemently reject the idea, and not enough verbal confirmation to sway the administrations decision like back when the community got them to roll back on the initial subscription idea.

The numbers are there and observable to anyone. I genuinely believe the recent updates to this game have been good, but the playerbase is still bleeding. The game lives in this antiquated system and it's time to update itself. How many successful rogue-like perma-death PVP games are there vs successful rouge-like perma-death PvE games?

I highly recommend you check out the game called Kenshi if you've not played it before. It is everything this game could be, but set in a very different atmosphere. I like Kenshi more, but I'd argue that Haven is superior and has more potential due to the multiplayer co-op potential.

Yeah, I've played Kenshi before, its quite nice. Definitely in the same niche of giga autistic games for me, biggest difference is the multiplayer (in Kenshi you and NPC's commit war crimes against each other, in this game however... :?)

I really like you. Do you think we could ever play together?
