It is hard enough to figure out what those damn numbers near the player's combat moves, but there is no indication on how to trigger your attacks as at all. (I eventually found a post where somebody explained the pressing number keys, which override the hotkey bar in combat.) I seriously tried 50 times to click the squares for the attack.

You have no idea how happy I am you said all that, lol, I thought I was the only one and have been feeling pretty stupid ever since Jordan explained how to do it ... I'm actually still having problems, only numbers 4/5 work, someone said it is because my numbers have dual purpose on my keyboard and I have no idea how to fix that or even if you can fix that, so I'm unable to do combat even if I wanted to .... well, I do want to, I need to be able to kill animals .... pls, pls, Jorb, just give me back my sling ..... :(

That sounds like a general streaming problem to me. 99% of the games out there are uninteresting to watch unless the streamer is really good at creating something out of it. That can be doing goofy shit, great commentary along with the game play, being really good and showing off, etc. Even then, there is often a lot of "load time" where nothing is going on and the streamer is setting up for one big trick.

You might be right in that there is more build up time and such with Haven, and thus tons more effort to pull off the amazing eye candy. However, I'd like to point out DaOpa's stream of EVE. I think he's mining half the time and streaming it just because. I don't know how many of his viewers are actively watching FOR the game play part of the stream, there just to BS in chat, and how many are afk waiting for something to happen (or bots of some sort to boost numbers, but he says they're not). People will stare at white noise on a television screen if you give them the right reason to.

As far as that learning curve... yeah. it's worse than even EVE, but probably not as bad as Dwarf Fortress. An in-game manual for the bare basics would be useful, and with the expanded starting area, they may be planning on some basics there. This isn't Quake where you just walk down the hallway and point your gun at and shoot whatever moves.

The game would likely be pretty interesting to splice together some youtube clips for, since you can cut out the boring pieces. With all the timer based events and massive chunks of land looking completely uninteresting and obviously randomly generated, live streams are just not an option yet.

Since video/streaming stuff is being talked about I'll chip in as someone actively doing youtube stuff with this game.

It's largely up to the person making the content, if you record and commentate for an hour and call that done then sure it's gonna be boring as hell, but there's definitely ways to do it right.

There's the educational approach, which I've to some extent been doing, where you explain some of the more arcane and weird systems in the game, that's definitely got a lot of value to some people and with a big enough audience would pull a fair percentage of them into playing.

There's also definitely value (to some people) to seeing someone develop a character and a base, you can experience by proxy the feeling of growing a character from a newbie to a decent level much faster than you could in game, the problem with that is that people could watch something like that and not bother playing the game, but some would still come and give it a go.

And then of course there's raid videos, usually they're just unedited stream highlights, which could get a bit tedious, I think they'd be much better to watch if cut down to highlights, and if anyone wants that doing and can somehow get me the files, I'll gladly do it as editing practice. I can see a few good raiding videos getting a certain crowd very into the game, but then obviously it could turn off the carebears.

TL;DR - you can make some good videos of the game, it depends entirely on the person making them...

I just came back to see if they finished Hafen already and whoop, p2p system.... You serious? There should be atleast a free premium to those who played from the very beggining (and helped finding tons of bugs and other shit), and been donating money from time to time ... Once i thought that atleast Jorb is a cool dude (althought he has problems with alcohol) but now... Why so greedy? Tell me

little bit entitled no? pay up, play for free, or get over it, you aren't owed anything just because you played the old game for free all that time...

There is a free to play system, You get 7 hours of in game time a week per account. Given the nature of this game and perma-death, you should develop more than 1 character on more than 1 account in order to get more time in game. two character on two accounts = 14 in game hours a week and two characters to play with, since mastering all stats with 1 character would be foolish anyway due to perma-death.

I enjoy the free play system since it encourages me to create multiple characters. If you want more time with 1 character there is a b2p option that doubles the time per week.

I agree the p2p option is way over priced and complete bs, but the developers need to get money somehow. Consider any purchases to it a donation and it would be an easier pill to swallow.

Being new to Haven I find myself struggling on multiple fronts, but I really don't share the OPs view. I have sub'd and am considering a second account and still think there should be an easier way to 'gift' to other players. That being said, my 2 cents on areas I see for possible improvement

I don't know what I don't know. As interesting as discovery is it is a bit overwhelming the amount of things I have not discovered. I am sure once the wika is updated and more things are known openly this wont be an issue. Currently it is an ongoing struggle to find those things I have not done that are holding me back (i.e. missing build/craft options). (*note - if there is a magic discovery/tech-tree list I would sure like to see it)

Quality madness. Between the initial farm-goods Q bug, 3 types of Q, and the complexities of dependencies between materials, this is hands down the best(or worst) part of the game. Not sure what the long term plan is, but for me I would much rather see somewhat of a reduced complexity at the price of slower gains for example. Also balance for things that take much more time (i.e. pumpkins, trees, etc)

Where is the beef? Being an eternal alpha I am not expecting this to be a complete game, but to me it feels like there is a lot missing. After reading/hearing about things in legacy haven and playing Salem I guess I expected more 'meat' to be in place at the start, and to me it should be a priority to flesh out more uses for things and balance. Please dont do what Salem seems to be doing and add incomplete/buggy features without finishing them.

Alt's Alt's and more Alt's. Sure seems that the intent is for you to create an alt for every need (Farmer, forager, miner, etc) because it is really hard to hermit from what I have seen unless your are in no-life mode. I know it is an MMO, but for people playing with smaller groups or in a village with less active players, it is a struggle to do the jack of all trades.

Combat I have yet to do much with but I do agree it is initially very confusing. Maybe easy to use hard to master was the plan, but I am still working on the easy to use side.

Regardless of what the vocal minority/haters say I like what I see and plan to continue to vote with my $'s. Keep up the good work.
