Seriously, though, you delve so deep into science, history and whatnot about human nature, while the answer is still in plain sight. A vegetarian who genuinely cares about animals doesn't have the compulsive need to impose his views on others. A person who feels that need is not a vegetarian. A teenage hipster wannabe slash keyboard warrior, maybe. The point is not doing the right thing, but telling everyone how he's right and all who disagree are wrong. That answers the OP's question, by the way.
