Tried valheim it's rather dull and soulless. People are way too hyped up about the flavour of this month's open world survival mmo

Haven't tried it but it does look a bit cheap. Like the UI is a bit dull and not very stylish etc.

It was fun for awhile then when discovering new things. but then yeah...the fun just kinda ends after the 3rd boss and you just need to keep grinding and skipping over the new stuff to get to newer stuff...
Game is still fun atlest with a group of friends for a week or two.

It's true if you can't knock down someone elses castle that they spent 3 years to build you can't really say you feel alive can you.

Also the gall to call call Valheim grindy coming from Haven players. Glass houses something.

Grapes sour something.

Seems all the MMO games suffer the same issues, depending on their choice of power limiting for players. Some have skill caps. Some are full-loot.

There is an interesting difference between MMOs with world resets, vs those that persist forever. World resets force the early game over again. Every game has a beginning, middle, and end style of gameplay. I would say players are in different camps which one they prefer, but I myself tend to like the early gameplay and things always get stale towards end-gameplay. The holy grail of MMO gaming I would think: How to repeat the early, mid, late gameplay without world resets, and without skill capping. I don't think it's been done yet.

Oh, and how to make eating Fun. That's small and trivial but H&H has the patent on that.

All games go back in rotation after one gets a little bored.

Im surprised no one mentioned last oasis or any other upcoming games mortal online 2 etc. There are definitely other games trying to do open world full loot pvp, but its true the population of these types of games almost always shrinks hugely and players are the content so they die.

I really enjoyed last oasis at the chaotic early acess launch maybe its a bit more because it gave me darkfall with mount and blade combat on ships vibe. Im optimistic when it comes out of EA it could grow its population, game has alot going for it imo. But i do like the developers, im pretty sure chadz the main dev has played haven (2d) because we had a thread and village on their old mods off topics forums.

Edit. World 13 this year i hope
